With the unique combination of an amazing front man, fantastic songs and awesome musicianship ROXANNE are a stunning tribute to one of the world's biggest bands of the last three decades. Formed in 2007 they have established themselves as Ireland's leading Police tribute band and they make their Waterford debut at the Forum on Friday September 5th.

Darren's resemblance to Sting in both his vocals and looks is uncanny and people could be forgiven for believing they were watching the real thing. Together with Arthur (guitars, vocals) and John (drums, percussion, vocals) and Shane (keyboards/vocals) their musical ability and obvious love for the music they play shine's through, enabling "ROXANNE" to capture all the excitement and energy of a band at the very top of their game.

In this superb two hour show Roxanne reproduce all the massive hits including Every Breath You Take, Message In A Bottle, Every Little T...

Delorentos stop-off at Traffik
Delorentos stop-off at Traffik

Dublin-based 4-piece Delorentos who play Traffik, at Forum Waterford on this coming Saturday released one of the most hotly anticipated Irish albums of 2007, In Love With Detail, on nascent Irish independent label Cottage on 20 April and saw it enter the Irish Charts at No 7.

It is comprised of 12 songs of achingly melodic, guitar-fuelled tales of modern romance lovingly crafted and beautifully executed with a balance and maturity that eludes many more experienced bands.

"The majority of the album was written in the last year," Kieran explains.

Road-tested during an extensive year of touring with re-writes and tweaks administered on an ongoing basis it all came together in Dublin's Sun and Apollo Studios with Gareth Mannix (Republic of Loose, The Chalets, Director, Humanzi) at the controls at the end of the year: "Which is fitting considering what an amazing year it has been for the band; full o...

The Association of Irish Choirs Feel like singing? then join in!
The Association of Irish Choirs Feel like singing? then join in!

National Choral Singing Day will celebrate World Mental Health Day Friday, 10th October 2008.

"We'd like to teach, if not the world certainly the country to sing . . . whether in perfect harmony or otherwise is up to yourself". That's the message from Mental Health Ireland, which has teamed up with the Association of Irish Choirs and the Arts Department of Wexford County Council to launch Ireland's first National Choral Singing Day to mark World Mental Health Day on Friday, 10th October.

A call is going out to all choirs and would-be singers throughout the country to come together on World Mental Health Day, to experience the therapeutic benefits of singing with others – in formal choirs, organised groups, with workmates, in the home or school – and have a lot of fun along the way.

The underlying message is that singing together - and indeed any group leisure or socia...

Waterford Male Voice Choir gears up for the start of its 2008/2009 season
Waterford Male Voice Choir gears up for the start of its 2008/2009 season

As the Waterford Male Voice Choir gears up for the start of its 2008/2009 season with an Open Night on September 23rd, the choir's youngest member, Michael Kelly, recalls joining last year.

I've been thinking about joining a choir for a while now but have always been prevented from doing so by a whole series of objections that my mind throws up: I won't know anyone there; I can't read music; I might have to do an audition in front of everyone; aren't choirs just, you know, naff?

I was in the school choir as a young lad and I always remember that ‘hair on the back of my neck' feeling when everything came together and our raggle-taggle group inadvertently sounded like the Vienna Boys Choir. But then I also recall the moment when my voice broke mid-song and I turned from Aled Jones to Satchmo in one ego-crippling moment - who could blame me for giving choirs a wide berth after that? The mists of time have...

Walking The Back Roads
Walking The Back Roads

By Michael McMonagle

A journey from Donegal to Clonmacnoise
Based on spontaneous encounters with people and nature, Walking The Back Roads is a snapshot of the country as the author found it, bringing everyday experiences of life in rural Ireland to the reader. The back road follows the contour of the land, and like a river, it strives to find the easiest way to wriggle through the landscape. Taking you down tracks people and animals have walked on for generations, each chapter catalogues his walk from Gartan in Co. Donegal down to Clonmacnoise in Co. Offaly. Featuring the people he met, animals he encountered, his experience with nature, the history of the land and the author's own reflections; Walking the Back Roads illustrates the innate courtesy and willingness to engage that still exists in the Emerald Isle.

The author took his inspiration for the walk from St Finnan and his prop...
