Despite being suffering a setback when "Portal 2" was delayed into 2011, Valve has made a lot of friends and found some parters thanks to the sequel. Back at E3, they revealed that the game would be getting Steam support on the PlayStation 3, and now they've revealed that EA parters will be handling distribution for retailers.

Publicly, things had been rather quiet recently regarding the "unfortunate" Mexican standoff of Infinity Ward-related lawsuits between Activision and the studio's former heads Jason West and Vince Zampella. A new round of accusations has begun, however, with an updated filing that explicitly names Electronic Arts on the list of parties that Activision wants money from when all is said and done. EA, unsurprisingly, does not agree with Activision's assessment of how things went down.

When I learned of the first details surrounding the multiplayer mode in "Dead Space 2," I was struck with the feeling that it all sounded very familiar. Four versus four battles of humans versus mutated creatures, where the creatures have special abilities and can pick their spawn points, allowing them to get the jump on the normals. Frankly, it sounded a lot like "Left 4 Dead." The other night, EA hosted a small multiplayer session for the game in New York, and my take-away impressions were that this isn't just a knock-off. This is truly "Dead Space" multiplayer.

Electronic Arts dated "Mass Effect 2" for the PlayStation 3 last week, but users will have to substitute an interactive comic for "ME1" if they want to impact the trilogy's web of decisions and alterable outcomes. It turns out that this won't be an issue for "ME2" players when the third chapter arrives at the end of of 2011, however. A brief description of "Mass Effect 3" leaked out over EA's online store last week, and a trailer on the VGA's Saturday confirmed what it said; now, EA's brought their evolving announcement full circle with confirmation that "ME3" will launch "simultaneously" on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for the 2011 holiday season.

It looks like EA let a little more Mass Effect information out of the vault than they intended to today. Though the company confirmed an official release date for "Mass Effect 2" on the PlayStation 3, and did so with a wealth of helpful other details, they quickly retracted a listing at the official EA Store explaining some fascinating details about the "Mass Effect 3" story.

EA has been up front in the past about their intentions to get "Mass Effect 2" onto the PlayStation 3 in January 2011, but until now they'd avoided committing to a specific date. That's no longer an issue today since they've confirmed a January 18 arrival for North America and January 21 for Europe. They're even going to throw in some DLC with a non-traditional substitute for the original "Mass Effect" and its role in defining story elements.

10-year plans are popular this month. First, Ubisoft talked about a decade's worth of intentions for Assassin's Creed, and now Electronic Arts is talking about just as many years for one game — "Star Wars: The Old Republic." The topic came up as EA CFO Eric Brown was addressing his "Old Repulic" outlook at the UBS Annual Media and Communications Conference in New York where expressed hopes that the MMO will last into 2021 (assuming a Spring 2011 release).

The original "Dead Space" was a great blend of survival horror, puzzle-solving and action. Sure, it got a little redundant after the whole monster-jumping-out-of-the-vent technique was used for seventh time, but really, there wasn't too much to complain about. Apart from adding multiplayer, "Dead Space 2" is really all about polishing the basic gameplay of the original. Fully 3D zero grav maneuverability, more action sequences, better graphics, that sort of thing.

EA made an enemy or two at UFC last year when they decided to enter the mixed martial arts fighting game arena with "EA Sports MMA." The new game might not have scored the the kind of knockout sales results that its makers wanted, but that doesn't they aren't willing to go another round with their THQ-partnered competition. In fact, the word out of EA Sports now is that "MMA 2" is a sure thing.

Electronic Arts' Battlefield franchise will be branching out soon with "Battlefield Play4Free" and a "Bad Company 2" iPhone game in the App Store, but EA hasn't forgotten about DLC for the core series' latest chapter. "Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam" will hit the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 before the end of the year, but the system you play "BBC2" on will determine how soon you can download their new expansion pack.
