05/12/2010 - Take That Marks A Year At Number One

Take That’s Progress makes it a third week at number one in the Official Albums Chart today and gives the band a career tally of a phenomenal 52 weeks at number one in the UK’s Official Singles and Albums Chart together, the Official Charts Company reports.  Take That are just the eighth act in chart history to achieve this feat.

Progress, which has already notched up multi-platinum sales of over 900,000 since it was released last month is a strong contender for biggest selling album of 2010.  It already occupies the number two slot in the Official Albums Chart of the year so far, behind Lady Gaga’s The Fame which was released in 2009.

Olly Murs, last year’s X Factor runner-up, also secures a record breaker with his debut album, the self-titled Olly Murs, a new entry at number two recording the biggest week one album sales (of over 108,000) for a debut artist this year so far.

There are two other new entries in this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 10; N-Dubz’ third album Love Live Life is straight in at number seven and Duffy’s follow-up to her multi-platinum debut Rockferry, Endlessly, is straight in at number nine.

In the Official Singles Chart, it’s a second week at number one for the 2010 X Factor Finalists’ charity single Heroes while the Official Singles Chart Top 10 sees just two new entries; Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger is straight in at number three with Poison, the new single from her forthcoming debut solo album and David Guetta is straight in at number nine with Who’s That Chick featuring Rihanna.

Rihanna appears on no less than two other tracks in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10; her own former number one Only Girl (In The World), currently at number seven, and What’s My Name featuring Drake, currently at number eight.  This gives Rihanna the distinction of having credits on three singles simultaneously in the Top 10, a feat achieved previously by only other three acts in chart history.
