History

Bruntwood Park - hall

Bruntwood Park was formerly a private estate named by its original occupant, John Douglas, after a village in Ayrshire, Scotland.

Originally built in 1861, the imposing Bruntwood Hall housed a series of wealthy industrialists. These included James Edward Platt who built a stud farm on the estate. The hall, which for a time acted as Council Offices for Cheadle and Gatley Urban District Council, is now in private ownership and not open to the public.

The park has been public open space since the 1940s. Bruntwood Park. It was originally created from a privately owned estate and hall with the original landscaping containing small areas of formal garden, water features and stands of native trees, which have matured to give fine specimens of Oak, Beech and Pine
