Hotel das Cataratas has an unparalled status as the only hotel located within Iguaçu National Park, just a short walk from Iguassu Falls. The hotel first opened in 1958 has recently been relaunched after a two-year renovation since joining Orient-Express.

The second Orient-Express hotel in Brazil (the first is the Copacabana Palace in Rio), Hotel das Cataratas has had the Portuguese colonial style of its architecture preserved. In the restoration coordinated by French architect Michel Jouannet, also responsible for the renovation of the Copa, Portuguese touches such as traditional tiles, were used to underline that style.

Paintings by Brazilian artist Ludmilla de Montes and other accents featuring local fauna and flora decorate the renovated suites, some of which afford spectacular views of the falls. The hotel has gained new amenities, such as a spa featuring rainforest-friendly products by Natura and a kids' pool.
