Sri Lanka evacuations continue as floods worsen

Help

Nearly one million people have been affected by heavy rain in eastern and central parts of Sri Lanka.

The government and international agencies have sent clean water and food rations to the areas affected, but at least 18 people are confirmed dead.

The BBC's Charles Haviland in Colombo described the situation.
