1. What do I study to get into the industry Kevin works in?
Depending on the route you would like to take. In South Africa you would study a Diploma in Conservation, or a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Zoology. However, that is only a foundation and by no means will ensure you a career working with animals. Relationship building takes effort and time and the relationships you see between Kevin and his animals comes from many years of working closely with them from a young age.
2. Has Kevin ever had a dangerous close encounter with an animal?
Yes, he has had several over the many years he has been working with wild animals but none life threatening. He talks about these encounters in his biography "Part of the Pride": my life among the big cats of Africa".
3. Does Kevin's family ever get worried about what he does for a living?
In the beginning I think his family used to worry but over the years they have realised the unique bonds, and relationships he has with the animals and the methods he uses makes the job less risky. He is also respectful of the animals and knows when to interact with them and when they are not in the mood.
4. What does Kevin do in his spare time when not with the animals?
He is a keen recreational pilot and flies most weekends in a light aircraft.
He gets his adrenalin kicks by riding superbikes on the race tracks and on other weekends takes scenic cruises on his 1969 Triumph Bonneville.
He enjoys watching MotoGP and is a huge fan of Valentino Rossi
He is also a keen fly fisherman.
5. Does Kevin keep any strange animals at his house as Pet's
No, he does not he has two dogs; Valentino and Dakota
6. Can we see Kevin interacting with the animals?
The farm Kingdom of the White Lion where Kevin and his animals are based is currently not open to the public so unfortunately you are not able to see Kevin interacting with the animals but we hope to open to the public soon.
7. Do you have a volunteer project we could participate in?
A volunteer program will be opening shortly together with the park Kingdom of the White where Kevin is based in early 2010.
