PYONGYANG, February 21 (KCNA) -- As already reported, a joint meeting of the political parties and organizations of the DPRK was held in Pyongyang on February 18 to discuss "measures for the north and south of Korea to achieve the unity and work together for paving the path of the nation independently” and adopt "a letter to the south Korean political parties and organizations” out of the desire to pool strength for the reunification of the country.
Rodong Sinmun in an editorial today says:
The proposal and initiative of the joint meeting to pave the path of the nation independently through the unity of the north and south of Korea are the most realistic, reasonable, fair and aboveboard ones, which make it possible to improve the deadlocked inter-Korean relations with the unshakable will of the whole nation for reunification and noble love for the country and nation and reunify the country by the united efforts of the nation.
Inter-Korean relations are now at a new epochal point. The present realities urgently call for respecting the three principles of national reunification, rejecting domination by outsiders and dependence on them and shaping the destiny of the nation independently in the idea of the three principles.
The proposal for founding the Democratic Confederal Republic of Koryo is consistent with the idea and principle of national independence.
South Korea should not take the road of dependence on outsiders and of confrontation which leads to national destruction, but the road of national independence and unity. This road does not open of its own accord with the alternation of the "governments” and "presidents” of south Korea. The key to the settlement of the issue is "policy” switchover, that is, the preservation of the Juche character and national character and the road to independence.
To improve the stalled inter-Korean relations and open a new epochal turn for national reconciliation and unity, it is necessary to turn the worst inter-Korean relations into relations of reconciliation and unity.
It is also necessary for the north and south of Korea to promote co-existence, co-prosperity and common interests and for the fellow countrymen to collaborate with each other and achieve unity.
The 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation laid down by the great leader comrade Kim Il Sung is the most fair and aboveboard great programme for unity that helps the north and south of Korea achieve reconciliation and unity and pave the way for the nation together.
It is the fixed stand of the government of the DPRK to solve the national reunification question independently and in a peaceful way through dialogue and negotiations. We have kept the door wide open for broad dialogue.
