Where would rock and roll be without the guitar? It will be all drums, bass and keyboards, that’s what. Acoustic guitars have been around for thousands of years, but the electric guitar has only been around since the 1930′s. First used for jazz and blues, then later for rock and roll and rhythm and blues, the electric guitar got a boost after World War II when Gibson Guitar, who collaborated with Les Paul, and Leo Fender of Fender Music popularized the solid body. One thing we know: Pete Ham was a massively impressive artist. As principal songwriter for Badfinger, he wrote and sang their iconic hits including “No Matter What,” “Day After Day,” and “Baby Blue,” as well as other terrific songs such as “Take It All” and “Name of the Game.” With Badfinger bandmate Tom Evans, Ham also wrote “Without You,” which Badfinger cut on its 1970 album No Dice, but which became a worldwide smash in the hands of Nilsson a year later.
But Ham’s life would shortly take a turn for the worse.
It looks like Aretha Franklin has some competition in the hat department. This morning, Clinton Kelly from What Not to Wear quoted Rupert Everett on their Facebook page as saying, “Most of the hats are ridiculous.”
