Jae Y. Kim, a Hackensack attorney, was appointed as a Central Municipal Court judge Friday by Bergen County Executive Kathleen A. Donovan.
"Jae Kim is a well-respected member of the New Jersey Bar, and I am pleased to appoint him," Donovan said in a release issued late Friday.
"As a member of Bergen County's growing Korean community, Jae will bring diversity to Bergen County's court system," she said.
Kim has also appeared on Media-Korea Television's "Together" program as a legal analyst.
He received a degree in economics from Boston University and his juris doctorate from Quinnipiac College School of Law, according to the release.
Kim has also served on the board of legal advisers and as legal counsel to the Korean American Association of America. He lives in Bergen County with his wife and two children.
Kim is expected to be sworn in by Superior Court Judge Peter Doyne on Tuesday.
