Yeezy In Tivoli

Kanye West. The self proclaimed new King of Pop. Also considered the number one fashionist of Hip-Hop by many (including us). In november 2010 (approximately 2 years after the Taylor Swift incident) he dropped his latest critically acclaimed album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”. We absolutely loved it, and so did the main part of the Hip-Hop and Pop world.

This was not without reason, since this was by far his biggest and most majestic and dared album so far. With violins and pianos, love songs and go-hard tracks and features from some of the greatest and biggest artists of our era (I’m talking Elton John, John Legend, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Fergie and more), Kanye has managed to stack together a absolutely formidable Hip-Hop/Pop album.

With that said, I’ll go on and let you know, that the artist I’ve just been talking about, is coming to Denmark on the 11th of August. Yesterday I told you that we don’t get alot of American Hip-Hop artists to Denmark. Now we have Kanye West on the 11th and Wiz Khalifa on the 14th of August. What a coincidence!

He’s released 5 albums since 2004. We’re of course excited about hearing him perform songs from the new album live, but we hope that he’ll also throw in some old classics in the sets. Here’s 5 songs (one from each album) that we think are among his greatest ever. Enjoy.

College Dropout (2004):

Late Registration (2005):

Graduation (2007):

808′s & Heartbreak (2008):

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010):

If you want to read more about the concert then hit up this link which is the only official one so far:

XXL Freshmen ’11

XXL is the leading magazine in the hip hop world. A special feature that they are famously known for is, putting together a group of 10 young rappers, that they consider “the next big thing”. XXL are pretty good at this. In ’09 they had (among others) Kid Cudi, Wale, B.o:B & Asher Roth and in ’10 they had J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean & Nipsey Hussle.

Those rappers are pretty big now, so you can probably imagine that XXL’s Freshman Class is something to watch out for if you want to know what’s the next big thing.

XXL released the 2011 class a couple weeks back (we would’ve posted this when it was more relevant – but better late than never). Because we’re in 2011, XXL decided to feature 11 artists, instead of 10. Thank you! At first sight eyesight I was pretty disappointed. But I figured that it was probably because I only knew 5, of which I only liked 2 (Mac Miller & Cyhi The Prynce). I then went on to download the XXL Freshman Class of 2011 Mixtape (which features 2 songs from each rapper, plus a freestyle and a couple of songs where they collaborate) and after listening to it for a bit, I quickly heard that I had been wrong about the list.

I would strongly recommend that you download this mixtape – if you want to be up to date about what’s hot in Hip-Hop. Looking at the statistics from earlier, you can tell that atleast half of these guys will go on to be big famous rappers. That’s pretty good. Our favourites here at Ricky Bender & Bastian are Mac Miller, YG, Big K.R.I.T., Cyhi The Prynce. We also gotta give creds to Lil’ B & Yelawolf – not because we like them that much, but because we can see what they’re doin’ and appreciate creative and skilled musicians.

XXL Freshman Class of 2011 Mixtape

Big K.R.I.T. just released his own mixtape aswell. I’ll give you a download link for that aswell – if you’re into this guy (like we are) then you should consider downloading it. It’s worth it.

Wiz Khalifa + Store Vega

Yes please! Wiz Khalifa is coming to Denmark the 14/08/2011.

What more could we ask for? J. Cole was here in January (I dont know you remember what we wrote about it, otherwise, click “older posts”), and now Wiz Khalifa in August. This is amazing news for us. We’re really big fans and have been supporting him since he released “Deal No Deal” and “Flight School”.

Wiz has been the talk of the town in hip hop, for almost a year now, and thats not without reason. This guy goes hard, and everyone in the industry wants to collaborate with him. Now, with the release of his album “Rolling Papers” a week or two ago, and making the cover of Rolling Stones Magazine, I’d call him a well established rapper.

Well, about the concert – I gotta admit, I did not expect this. We don’t get alot of American Rap/Hip Hop/RnB to perform in Denmark. Actually the only big one i remember is J. Cole. Chris Brown was here a couple of years ago, but that doesn’t count (that was in his “Forever” & “With You” period. Now he’s actually alright). Either way, this is definitely a pleasant surprise, and I’m ready for friday (08/04/11) when the tickets go on sale.

I’m not gonna go into details about time, price, etc. – you can read all about that here on the official website:

http://vega.dk/arrangementer/wiz-khalifa-3342.html

http://vega.dk/events/#event=3342 (english version)

Normally this is where I would say “hey, ohh yeah btw, here’s some songs you can download”. But I’m not gonna do that this time. This time I’m gonna try to encourage you to support one of the Hip-Hop scenes best rappers right now, by buying his album. You can do that on Itunes by following the link below:

The Cool Kids

So i just bumped into these “behind-the-scenes” of The Cool Kids new music video for the single “Bundle Up”. It may be a winter anthem, but any music video news from The Cool Kids, is good news! Well that was what I thought at first. Seems I was right! As far as i can tell, from watching the videos and reading around the web, it’s going to be a so-called mockumentary. Meaning it’s a fictive documentary.

The music video is supposedly going to be a “behind-the-scenes music video”, where the idea is that we’re watching the making of a music video. So what you’re about to watch is a behind-the-scenes video of a behind-the-scenes music video. Either way, dont listen to me, instead, may i propose you watch the videos, it looks pretty awesome. The music video for “Bundle Up” will be released on Monday (11/04/11). That is, not the actual music video, but the behind-the-scenes music video. Right.

“Bundle Up” is the first single off their album “When Fish Ride Bicycles” which is meant to be released on the label “Green Label Sound”. There has been talk about this album for years now, and it has been known as the album that will never be released. Though on the labels website http://www.greenlabelsound.com/ (in the artist – The Cool Kids, category) it says it’s set for spring 2011. I guess that’s kind of now? We’ll see. Anyway, what you’re here for – the videos!

For the mp3 – you know what to do:

Chiddy Bang + Mac Miller

This just dropped today. When i saw the title “Chiddy Bang ft Mac Miller”, I knew it had to be good. And I was right! These two MC’s compliment each other very well, and with Xaphoon Jones producing, it’s pure faceroll. Chiddy & Xaphoon will soon release a mixtape, and after that we can look forward to an album from the duo. Not much more to say. Just download it.

We’re back

Hey blog-readers.

First of all – sorry for the inactivity lately… Or should i say since start February. We should probably have told you that we were gonna take a break. But we went skiing with our school in Val Thorens – IT WAS OFF THE HOOK – and after that, we kind of lost the will to blog…

That has changed, and we’re back; fresher than ever! We’ve learned alot in the last couple of months, and we feel that we’re now ready to pick up the blogging once again, and make up for the lost time. We hope you’re prepared, ’cause we’re definitely ready to give you daily doses of the music and fashion tips you need. To make up for lost time, we’ll throw in some mixtapes from the freshest Mc’s in the industry right now. This is (among other) what we’ve been listening to lately. I don’t think it’s necessary to say anything about these guys… They rock.

More posts will be droppin’ later today. So stay tuned!

Mac Miller – Best Day Ever

Big Sean – Finally Famous Vol. 3 – For y’all newbies, it’s the orange Download button

Pusha T – Fear Of God (yes, it’s that guy from Runaway)
