TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian embassy in Kabul said the country has sent some 5,000 tons of fuel to Afghanistan over last week.

Iran is now sending over 1,000 tons of fuel to Afghanistan daily as requested by Afghan government. But Afghan government has called for the amount to be increased by multi-fold over last few weeks which raised doubts for Iranian officials.

Iranian ambassador to Afghanistan Fada Hossein Maleki raised concerns when he was informed that the shipped fuel was reportedly given to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces in Afghanistan.

The disruption in fuel swap to Afghanistan over last couple of weeks caused smear campaigns against Iran by some Afghan media whereas Iran has continued to provide Afghanistan with the required fuel of 1,000 tons per day.

The embassy also declared Iranian officials are ready to examine any possible Afghan request for raising the amount of fuel transit.

Some reports say that inappropriate distribution of fuel in Afghanistan and lack of government supervision have created problems.

Some sources say that fuel was only given to Afghan businessmen but not ordinary people or it was stored.
