Diesel's new "Diesel Island" advertising campaign will also launch in February. It will feature a mythical island populated by Diesel models and fans, brought to life via online games, viral videos and a Facebook application where consumers can interact with the island and its imaginary population. There will also be a fake Wikipedia entry that will be updated weekly as the island grows. “Think ‘Lost’ but with nicer clothes," says Riccardo Bellini, Diesel’s global vice president of branding and marketing. OK, we haven't really wanted to write about this, but recently Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister outlets in New York and a Victoria's Secret  have reportedly been infested by bedbugs. Apparently, unknowing customers have carried the critters into the stores. All we can say is "ewwww!" And from now on, we at All the Rage are washing any clothes we buy before wearing.  [WWD]

Milan Fashion Week: Emporio Armani works the angles

January 17, 2010 |  2:00 pm

Emporio_armani_aw2010_mens_runway
Reporting from Milan -- Circle gets the square. Although most of the other designers at Milan Fashion Week were going soft and fuzzy with voluminous sheepskins and blanket coats for their Fall/Winter 2010 collections, Giorgio Armani's Emporio Armani line was crisp, clean and cool.

Titled "A Geometric Theorem," it was themed around five basic shapes: squares, triangles, rectangles, circles and rhombuses (or is that rhombi?), rendered in assorted shades of gray interspersed with vivid colors that included highlighter yellow, fluorescent green and vivid pink.

Combined with the skateboard gear that opened the show, the result was an '80s-flashback wardrobe that would make Max Headroom weep pixels, chock full of black-and-white stripes, zigzags and graph-paper-textured scarves and blazers. Other scarves and some unstructured layered pieces were edged in metal zipper teeth.

There were also some pieces with pyramid-shaped designs that seemed OK on knit hats (it gave the models a slight Bart Simpson vibe), but on sweaters they looked odd to me, like raised geometric welts or tiny udders -- but maybe that's just the rural-Vermont upbringing in me.

The finale was more than two dozen men who took to the runway in nothing but their Emporio Armani skivvies and running shoes -- an attempt to highlight a sneaker collaboration dubbed the EA7/Reebok collection, though the sudden stampede of beefcake meant the sneakers had little chance of being noticed.

Emporio Armani set to stream men's AW10 runway show

January 12, 2010 |  3:59 pm

RageEmporio

Good news for any armchair fashion critics hankering for a taste of the upcoming men's fall/winter 2010 runway shows: The upcoming Emporio Armani men's runway show is slated to stream live from the company's Via Bergognone space in Milan this Saturday, starting at 7:30 a.m. PST (4:30 p.m. CET).

Although Emporio Armani streamed its spring/summer 2010 women's runway show back in September, a company representative told us that this marks the first time the menswear collection will be available.

The feed should be available through both http://live.emporioarmani.com and by linking through the official Armani Facebook fan page

The official Milan Fashion Week calendar has the show scheduled to start at 5 p.m. local time in Milan (8 a.m. in Los Angeles), so we have no idea what you'll be able to see before that. With any luck there will be crowd shots, so you can spend your Saturday morning playing a version of "Where's Waldo?" with your favorite cartoonish fashion journalist/blogger.

I'll be the one in the glasses and the Elmer Fudd hat ...

An Emporio Armani first: Italian jeans with L.A. genes

December 29, 2009 |  2:12 pm

For the first time, Emporio Armani, the lower-priced label from the Milan-based Giorgio Armani fashion empire, is offering jeans produced right here in Los Angeles as part of its Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

Womens_straightleg_lightWe haven't gotten our hands on a pair yet, but the press materials describe the four styles of jeans ( two for men and two for women) as “the refinement of the Armani brand with an original interpretation of the authentic vintage American look.”

The Stars and Stripes vibe will also be evident thanks to red, white and blue leather labels, brushed white enamel rivets, and special hangtags. The $195 price tag puts it in line with other Emporio Armani offerings.

We couldn't get anyone at Armani to tell us exactly where in "the heart of vibrant L.A." the jeans are being produced and finished -- or specifically what the production entailed (it could be anything from the complete design, sourcing and manufacture of the jeans to simply stitching together the final few pieces of a garment that have been created elsewhere) but the announcement does make reference to "the craftsmanship and the professional secrets of the world-renowned wash and finish processes," which makes us think the jeans are at least being laundered to their broken-in look at one of the city's wash houses.

An Armani representative did tell us that the "Made in California" jeans are not a single season one-off, and will continue into future seasons along with new styles and products.

The two styles for men and two for women are the first ever jeans the company has produced in Los Angeles. They are available now at brick-and-mortar Emporio Armani stores (sorry, no online sales) nationwide (including Rodeo Drive and South Coast Plaza stores locally) and the Armani Fifth Avenue megaflagship in New York City retailing for $195. Beginning in February, the men's styles will also be available at select Saks Fifth Avenue (including San Diego's Fashion Valley Mall location) and Bloomingdale's stores (including the Century City Shopping Center location here in Southern California). MFW: Emporio Armani's fall 2009 women's collection

February 26, 2009 |  4:48 pm

David beckham victoria beckham emporio armani underwear ad milan MILAN -- David and Victoria Beckham's Emporio Armani underwear ads are plastered all over the city of Milan, inviting the world to the Beckham bedroom. But when it came to the Emporio Armani show today, the couple was nowhere to be seen. Nor were any other famous faces, a rarity for the celeb-loving designer.

Chalk it up to the more subdued mood emerging in the early hours of this Milan Fashion Week. The focus here, as it was in New York, is business.
