Towtruck driver arrested in Christmas Eve killing
Preston Ryan Oates, 27, the towtruck owner/operator alleged to have shot to death on Christmas Eve a Bluffton construction contractor who had parked his car on a residential street in the Edgefield neighborhood, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter. Beaufort County Sheriff Tanner stated that the victim, Carlos Alberto Olivera, had been shot six times. Members of the victims family stated that the killing was “execution style”.

Picture this: not long ago, an elderly man in the Northwest Quadrant saw an adolescent take a bike from his front porch and start peddling down the street. The elderly gent, quite fit, gave chase. The kid on the bike had some trouble with the drive chain on the bike and had to stop to fix it. Meanwhile, three or four other kids came out of their houses to make fun of the spectacle of the older man running towards the thief as the thief tried to fix the chain. Accused murderer was convicted of lewd act on a child
Darold Lavar Drayton, the 32-year-old Bluffton man who goes by many aliases and was accused today of murdering 27-year-old Alexis Lukaitis, was convicted on January 6, 2005, of committing a lewd act upon a child under the age of 16, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s (SLED) website. SLED’s records show that Drayton was placed on probation three years later on January 5, 2008 after having failed to register as a convicted sex offender as required by law.. [ read article ... ]

Darold Lavar Drayton of May River Road in Bluffton was charged with one count of Murder by Charleston County Sheriff’s Office investigators this afternoon, Thursday, August 12, according to a press release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Drayton, who was arrested yesterday by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office investigators on unrelated charges including failure to register as a sex offender, was considered a person of interest in the initial missing person investigation. Smalls said Gooding grabbed her trusty pistol and engaged in a shootout with one of the men who invaded her rural home in the middle of the night and kidnapped her.
