The South Calgary Community Association represents the people of the South Calgary, Altadore, Garrison Woods, and River Park neighbourhoods. With a total population of approximately 12,500, we are one of the largest community associations in Calgary. The SCCA is a member of the Federation of Calgary Communities (www.calgarycommunities.com). Our Mission Statement is: To maintain high quality of life and community pride for all residents of South Calgary Community Association, through services and facilities that provide educational, cultural, social, and recreational programs.

Ours is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada with a rich mix of cultural diversity, parks and green space, recreation facilities, and a one-of-a-kind shopping district, Marda Loop.

The South Calgary Community Association is a not-for-profit body run by a group of dedicated volunteers who have proudly served the residents of our community for over forty years. The scope of our work revolves around many issues in our community including transportation, development, parks and green space plus recreational, and educational programs for all ages. Our organization serves as a conduit to City Hall as the voice for our residents.

What have we done for you lately?

A list of the Top 5 things the SCCA has delivered on behalf of our residents.

1. We vigorously represent and advocate for the environmental, mobility, economic, social, and quality of life interests of our communities and residents on planning and development issues. Recent examples include the former King Edward School Site, the CFB West development plan, the River Park/Sandy Beach/Britannia Slopes redevelopment plan, and the Glenmore Athletic Park redevelopment plan. To express an opinion about a planning, development or mobility/traffic issue, or to get involved, please contact civicaffairs@southcalgarycommunity.ca or traffic@southcalgarycommunity.ca

2. Our annual fundraiser, Indulge, continues to be THE party of the year for our communities. Proceeds raised at this event in the spring of each year support programs offered by the SCCA for our members. For information or to get involved, please contact indulge@southcalgarycommunity.ca

3. Our members receive regular email updates with information ranging from when the next general and committee meetings are taking place to how to get your hands on those hot tickets for Indulge. (If you're a member and haven't been receiving these updates, drop us a line at membership@southcalgarycommunity.ca.) We continue to work with the Calgary Outdoor Swimming Pool Association to offer our communities a great outdoor pool during the summer months. We are also continually planning and implementing improvements to the SCCA Hall and hope you will come check us out!

4. We’ve partnered with the local chapter of the Calgary Block Watch Association to bring graffiti abatement programs into our community.  We continue to work with our Block Watch chapter to reduce crime and graffiti in our neighbourhood...remember to call 311 everytime you spot graffiti in our neighbourhood.

5. We provided seed funding and facilities to the Calgary Community Gardens organization to create and operate a community garden on our site.  Please drop by the hall next spring to see what they are growing!

We are committed to working hard for our communities because we live here too! Please consider buying a membership or volunteering some of your valuable time and expertise to help the SCCA.

If you are a member of the SCCA and haven’t been receiving these monthly updates, drop us a line at membership@southcalgarycommunity.ca
