Ford is recalling some of its 2011 Explorer SUVs to fix a potential problem with their second-row seats. While recalls are often among the teething pains new vehicles suffer in early days of production, they still bring unwanted attention that can hurt a car’s image just as it is trying to generate consumer interest.
The recall includes vehicles built from July 15 through Dec. 13, 2010 and equipped with second row 60/40 split seats with manual reclining mechanisms. The recliners may have components that are not made to the proper specification. The seats fail to conform to certain federal motor vehicle safety rules. In a crash the seat back may not provide the required strength, which could increase the risk of injury.
The recall affects 1,658 vehicles. The company says it will notify owners of the problem and dealers will make repairs free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on or about Feb. 14.
In a statement the company said, “Ford is committed to safety and is quickly working to address this matter with our customers. We are not aware of any incidents with customer vehicles.”
So much for ” truck of the year”!!
I think the new SUV coming from Detroit are right on the money: The Explorer, Acadia, Cherokee, Durango have finally learned the lesson. My favorite (and next buy) is the Acadia.
All cars have recalls, Toyotas, Hondas, BMW, etc.
…
I would say, let’s give them a chance.
Ford - King of Recalls. Ask any of their dealers.

I would never buy any of the Detroit junk, be it Government Motors or Found On Road Dead.
