According to Twitter representatives, the trending list is automatically generated by an algorithm that "attempts to identify topics that are being talked about more right now than they were previously." In other words, the list picks up on spikes of new hot topics as opposed to topics like WikiLeaks, which are generating a lot of interest, but at a steady, constant level.
 

 
Level 3 Communications is going after AT&T after the telecom giant accused the Internet service provider of political spin in its dispute with Comcast.


Google's Andy Rubin tweeted that there are now more than 300,000 Android phones activated every day. That's about 27 million phones a quarter, or twice the iPhone's best quarterly haul of 14 million.


Tech companies often aim guerilla marketing at their rivals' events. Salesforce.com's big confab this week proved no exception, but the company managed to twist at least one attack back on the attacker.
