Buxom actress Jane Russell dead at 89

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” movie star Jane Russell, who became a controversial Hollywood sex symbol, died on Monday at the age of 89, her family said.

I was very disturbed at the title “Buxom actress Jane Russell dead at 89″ for your news article about her death today.

She was a human being. I never met her, but she – and her family – should have been shown more respect.

Comedian Charlie Callas dies at 83

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Charlie Callas, a rubber-faced stand-up comedian and Mel Brooks regular who worked on television, in films and on stage for five decades, died Thursday in a Las Vegas hospice. He was 86.

Reading both the AP and your article concerning the death of Charlie Callas via Yahoo! News I noted that your story had him at 86 and AP said 83.

Only one of you can be right, unless that rascal Dr. Emmett Brown and his DeLorean showed up.

The wrong king?

Geoffrey Rush against re-editing “King’s Speech”

Rush also voiced his frustration over critics who say “The King’s Speech’ distorts history by omitting details, such as Edward VII’s (Guy Pearce) Nazi sympathies and Winston Churchill’s (Timothy Spall) support of Edward VII during his embarrassing abdication of the throne to his brother.

The article wrongly attributes actor Guy Pearce to playing Edward VII. He is in fact playing Edward VIII. King Edward VII was Queen Victoria’s son.

A slew of choices…

She weighed about 100 pounds (45 kg) when she wore that iconic metallic gold bikini and slayed Jabba the Hutt, the massive, slug-like alien in “Return of the Jedi.”

“I’ve jumped out of a plane. I’ve walked over coals, repelled down a mountain. And I’m afraid of scales,” Fisher said.

I am requesting some minor corrections to an article. Sometimes you need a human rather than a spell check.

Usually, you would use SLEW rather than SLAYED. Also, you meant RAPPELLED, not REPELLED.

Michelle Williams still asks why Heath Ledger died

The 30 year-old actress, whose romance with Ledger blossomed on the set of “Brokeback Mountain” in roles for which they both received Oscar nominations (he won supporting actor), said she had found “meaning in things and people and relationships that have sprung up and friendships that have strengthened.

You should correct the misstatement of facts in this article.

Heath Ledger did NOT win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Brokeback Mountain, he didn’t win anything at all, though many of us believe he should have. He was nominated in the Best Actor category but did not win.

COMMENT

I was really miffed when I saw that another Bruce Lee had left us just after the completion of a major career making movie role had transpired. This has to stop! Jimmy Hendrix,Pete Duel, the guy who fired a blank into his temple and the wad penetrated his skull cavity and D.O.A.(not Pete duel but a crime drama sitcom where the guy had everything clicking for him and made a fatal joking error). Stupid!I could do a little research and come up with a list that would boggle your mind, but A.A. calls and life is so rich now that I’m focused! Further comment is welcomed?

“Deadliest Catch” stars quit Discovery show

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – A trio of stars of Discovery’s hit reality series “Deadliest Catch” have left the show.

The network sued the Hillstrands for $3 million claiming they failed to show up to finish work on “Hillstranded,” a planned “Catch” spinoff. The Hillstrands’ lawyer Jeff Cohen then called the suit an attempt to “extort” his clients and said the lawsuit could force them to sell their boats and fire their crews. Hansen, also repped by Cohen, later weighed in, backing the Hillstrands, slamming Discovery and saying, “I want people to know the captains stand together, and me and my brothers support them 100 percent.”

Please be advised that “repped” is not a word. The word “represented” would have been the correct choice. Your attention to this matter would be appreciated.

”Mission Impossible 4” to be filmed in Dubai

DUBAI, Sept 28 (Reuters Life!) – The fourth sequel of action blockbuster “Mission Impossible” starring Oscar-winning actor Tom Cruise will be partly filmed in Dubai, the Gulf Arab emirate’s media office said on Tuesday.

Hello, I just wanted someone to know that there is a mistake in this story regarding Tom Cruise.

It states at the beginning that he is Oscar-winning Actor Tom Cruise. I just wanted to say that Mr. Cruise has never won an Oscar as of yet.

COMMENT

So why is this a story anyway? My neighbourhood in London is a lot smaller than Dubai in population and area and lots of movies are “partly filmed” here.

Titanic sunk by steering mistake, author says

LONDON (Reuters) – The Titanic hit an iceberg in 1912 because of a basic steering error, and only sank as fast as it did because an official persuaded the captain to continue sailing, an author said in an interview published on Wednesday.

Louise Patten, a writer and granddaughter of Titanic second officer Charles Lightoller, said the truth about what happened nearly 100 years ago had been hidden for fear of tarnishing the reputation of her grandfather, who later became a war hero.

COMMENT

Several commentators have suggested that the error was in trying to slow the ship down, once the iceburg was sighted. I’ve read in several places that, had they sped up to maximum speed, and turned hard, they might have had the momentum to go around the burg — that it was trying to slow down, and the resultant lack of maneuverability, that caused the collision.

You know there’s more than one Cusack, right? You have a story about Joan Cusack, but you illustrated it with a photo of JOHN Cusack.

A Very Brady error?

Photo

Bristol Palin, Hasselhoff join “Dancing With the Stars”

Fans of the TV family sitcom “The Brady Brunch” will be able to watch actress and TV talk show host Florence Anderson, 76, who played Carol Brady in the popular 1970s show.

I was reading your story on Yahoo news about this season’s people on “Dancing with the Stars” when I came to the actress who portrayed Carol Brady on the Brady Bunch.

COMMENT

Your story ‘FBI urges U.S. Mohammed cartoonist to go into hiding’ (found here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100917/us_n m/us_usa_cartoonist#mwpphu-container ) ends with the statement, “U.S. cartoon TV series South Park stirred up controversy and more threats earlier this year with its depiction of Mohammed in a bear suit.”

This statement is inaccurate. It was Santa Claus that turned out to be in a bear suit, not Muhammed.

Considering that (in the bizarre world we live in) cartoonists are now being driven underground by death threats over the content of their cartoons, this error well might be considered non-trivial.
