EBay launches LookBook, a shop-able street-style website

Ebay EBay has tapped into the allure of street-style blogs for its newest online e-commerce endeavor. EBay LookBook, a shop-able style gallery on which users upload snapshots of their outfits, bridges the gap (quite cleverly, I might add) between personal style and retail.

Here's how it works: Users upload photos of themselves and are encouraged to vote on favorite looks that have been submitted by others. And when you click on a look, up pops photos of EBay finds that are stylistically similar to pieces worn in the photo.

And right now, the site is hosting a contest. One of the top 25 voted-on snapshots will score a $5,000 EBay shopping spree; a photo shoot with Lucky magazine's street-style photographer, Michael Waring; and a fashion consultation with Lucky editor at large Elise Loehnen.

The winner will be chosen by EBay's "style panel," made up of Loehnen; Whitney Port, designer and star of "The City"; stylist Annabel Tollman; Meredith Barnett, editorial director of "The Inside Source"; and Karen Bard, EBay trend expert.

EBay is also partnering with Lucky to bring the LookBook to life in New York and Los Angeles. The L.A. event, which will take place at the Grove shopping center on Sept. 29, will include a free photo shoot with Waring. Port, Tollman and Loehnen will also be there, doling out "style tips."

'America's Next Top Model's' Jay Manuel auctions his clothes for a good cause

Jay Jay Manuel, co-host of "America's Next Top Model" and various E! network red-carpet shows, is losing his shirt(s) for a good cause.

The bleached-blond fashion expert will auction  more than 100 personal wardrobe items on EBay from May 13 to 23 to help benefit Operation Smile, a global children’s medical charity dedicated to helping improve the lives of children and young adults who were born with cleft lips and cleft palates. (Note: Only a portion of the sales will go toward the charity.)

Auction items include pieces Manuel has worn on various red carpets and clothes from his personal life.

Standout pieces include a Valentino beaded tux jacket; an Yves Saint Laurent black tuxedo; a silver and black Commes de Garcons jacket; an all-white D&G silk tuxedo; a Roberto Cavalli embossed silk blazer; a one-of-a-kind denim "art piece" jacket; John Fluevog silver boots; and various Prada and Louis Vuitton bags.

Bidders and fans can sign up on the Jay Manuel EBay page to be notified when the auctions go live.

"Anyone who knows me knows my love of clothes," said Manuel in a news release. "My grandfather was a tailor, so it's in my genes. Over the years, I've been fortunate [enough] to wear beautiful clothing from many top designers, and now it's time for me to give something back."

Ebay launches a shopping and fashion page featuring top celebrity stylists

Ebay stylist Ebay, the mother of all e-commerce websites, is ramping up its high-fashion offerings.

The cyber marketplace launched a new style hub on Monday, Fashion Voice, featuring shopping tips from style experts including celebrity stylists Annabel Tollman, Britt Bardo and Estee Stanley.

Tollman, who has styled Cynthia Nixon, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Simpson, among others, is also the host of a new series of videos for the site that lends style advice to shoppers. The first video, "Find Your Vintage Era," sees Tollman giving shoppers advice on how to find and wear vintage using style icons through the decades as inspiration (i.e. curvy girls should try a Marilyn Monroe-esque '50s look).

But the bulk of Fashion Voice delves into the loves and passions of its stable of experts.

Each fashion pro has answered questions pertaining to their personal fashion ethos. Trend expert Karen Bard, for example, shares that her favorite eBay find ever was a Missoni throw blanket, and that her best-kept beauty secret  -- and one we're tempted to try -- is using "Vaseline on curled eyelashes instead of mascara."

Narciso Rodriguez launches EBay collection

Narciso rodriguez ebay
Narciso Rodriguez, the New York-based designer famous for his streamlined, muted designs, is launching a separate -- and much lower-priced -- collection for online marketplace EBay.

Starting Monday at 9 a.m. Pacific time, the Narciso Rodriguez for EBay collection will be available through a specially branded store on the website. Prices will range from $65 to $350.

From the sketches the company sent us, it looks to be an American sportswear-inspired line of dresses and separates that employ Rodriguez' trademark body-friendliness.

There's a smoky blue daytime "suit" comprised of a boxy, short-sleeved jacket and pencil skirt (above, left); at least two form-fitting black dresses with a diagonal swipe of contrasting color near the collarbone -- one white, one red (above, right); a belted trench; and an Empire-waist black party dress with a scoop neck and flouncy skirt.

It all looks classic Narciso -- wearable, flattering and uncomplicated. Perfect for these convoluted times.
