Fighting like a spartan and thinking like a general? The way the game gets described with ever more recent news posts always makes me want to get the game more

I really really love the new art style, it's much less mucky and washed out than the first one. (I actually loved the first one, so I didn't mind, but it really did look a lot like slightly smeared paint sometimes).

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze

There really are parts that the pace just becomes kinda...off, I'll admit. But it really is worth diving into for when you get to the meatier parts of the game. :)

Yeah, the first time I played it, I gave up halfway through. Gotta admit though, doing it again for the second time and loving it.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze

Are you playing a console version or the PC version? Because Dragon Age on PS3 looks and plays like shit compared to the PC version...

(I'm actually more of a PS3 fan than anything else, but I got the ultimate edition cheap for PC when I finally got a gaming lappy, and the difference is undeniable.)

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze Strange, I really found it engrossing from the first minute. Heck, as soon as I finished my first playthrough I started a new character and dived into the game. And if it wasn't for ME2 and other games I wanted to play, I would've done a third playthrough as well. Still planning to, hoping to get it done before DA2 comes out.

""You could tell the art had been created primarily for PCs and that we'd done what we could to make it work for consoles, but now it looks great across all three platforms.""

So the solution was to dumb down the UI with bland icons instead of the artful paintings of DAO? Where the symbol for one sword is now exactly the same as another sword and the UI has no atmospheric detail at all?

Yeah, PC users really got considered there. Now it looks like a screen full of power ups from a Sci-fi racing game.

At least CDProjekt remembers how to create a PC RPG.

@arkweld I think you should take it as a good sign that the thing you're complaining about isn't any more important than icon art.

@TheDarkWayne

that's only because it isn't available to play.

The UI is generic and bland now. Try differentiating between weapons in the inventory. You can't, because they all look exactly the same.

@arkweld I haven't seen the inventory system, but I'm pretty positive the different weapons will have names and words to go along with them

I was never able to get into the first game. I am a console player and it was just a little too old school PC RPG for my tastes (which was admittedly what they were going for) and it felt like a bad port of a PC game on the Xbox 360 which is what it was I guess.

DA : O is a great game on 360.

While yes it was a port, it was a port done well with the method they used for incorporating multiple skills onto 4 buttons.

"But fans of BioWare's successful 2009 RPG shouldn't fear a repeat of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. The aesthetics have changed, the battles system has been altered, but a familiar formula still operates beneath the surface."

But that was literally the problem with Warrior Within.

I'm only getting this if there are more consistent, meaningful options to play out same-sex romances. A 30 second vignette with no later plot references to it aren't enough to keep my interest this time.

So you only buy games based on how good the interactive homosexual relationships are? Does that mean you never play games?

Played and finished the first one on the PC and thought it was quite brilliant.
Thinking of getting the GOTY deal for the PS3. How does the PS3 version compare to the PC version? Is it really so bad as (some) people make it out to be? Would love me some epic couch gaming after Mass Effect 2 :)

@Fillem

I have NOT played the PS3 version, but I'll say this: first time I played through was on the Xbox (Which is supposed to be the worst off of the bunch), second time on the PC. I enjoyed the Xbox version more, actually.

Yes, the Xbox version was ugly at times, and the PS3 isn't supposed to be much better, but the more actiony style of the console games pulled me into the action more.

Yes there are more bugs on the console versions, yes in terms of graphics it's a bit of a step down, but if you enjoyed the PC version you ultimately shouldn't have any problems with the console version.

Still really excited about it, but the more and more they show of it, the less enthused I am about it. My only real complaint is the graphics, they still don't look as "visually super hot" as they said they would, and ugh, those faces, everyone looks like a lump of clay.

Man, am I the only one that really liked the first one? That loved that it was a spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate series? Here's hoping it doesn't turn out to be just another hack-n-slash, action-adventure title.

I can accept the sped up action, I can accept the cartoonish artwork since its not TOOO bad, I can accept the over the top kills and silly animations (too a point), but the one thing I CAN'T stand is that they voiced the main character and only give you (mostly) 3 choices of good/bad/neutral dialog. Its NOT your character, but this pin prick character which is just another commander Shepard clone, along with dragon effect 2. It will be a fun game I am sure, but it will be an inferior game since the WHOLE DAMN POINT of DAO was that it was OLD SCHOOL RPG!!!!

I think EA is pushing the whole "make DA2 into another mass effect 2" since it seems weird the sudden design change. DAO was in development before EA bought bioware out, then DA2 was being developed before DAO was even released! The ironic thing is that DAO sold more than ME and ME2, which seems to say people WANT the old school rpg. Damn you bioware for selling out, at least CD Projekt knows how to treat it fans.
