Pete Rose 2d, the son of Manager Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds, has signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles, the team announced yesterday. The younger Rose, an 18-year-old third baseman, was the Orioles' 12th-round draft selection in the June draft. He will report to the Orioles' West Palm Beach affiliate in the Florida Instructional League. Players are due to report on Sept. 13. . . . The attorney for a woman who is suing Wade Boggs of the Boston Red Sox said he would not proceed with the $12 million palimony lawsuit against Boggs until after the season. James McGee, the attorney for Margo Adams of Costa Mesa, Calif., said Wednesday that the delay was to prevent any interference with the American League East pennant race. . . . The Cincinnati Reds announced yesterday that Bo Diaz, their 35-year-old catcher, will need surgery tomorrow on his left knee, which has bothered him recently. Diaz had to be dropped from the starting lineup just before the Reds' game Wednesday night against Pittsburgh because his knee was bothering him. The surgery will sideline him for the rest of the season. (AP)
