A refuge for hungry diners
DINING REVIEW
So you’re driving out Route 9 on a windswept winter’s day, snow granules flying off the drifts and across your dead-level path through East Brookfield. Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” is rumbling through your brain. You long for an oasis, and there lies E.B. Flatts.

Lasso yourself a perfect burger
DINING REVIEW
I was sorely temped to address the hostess as “darlin’ ” but I wasn’t wearing my Stetson or my boots, and I judged that such familiarity might not be appreciated or appropriate. After all, we were in Worcester, not Fort Worth, and the social mores of Texas don’t translate well in New England.

Gardner tavern is sure to satisfy
DINING REVIEW
a visit to Williams Restaurant and Tavern could prove habit-forming. The Pearson Boulevard eatery proved a good choice on a recent, and very cold, December evening. The tavern (big, cozy and warm, with golden pine walls, tables and booths, stained-glass lampshades and green accents) is welcoming; its atmosphere is just right for families, couples or friends. They’ll surely enjoy a good meal and friendly service inside.

A homey, welcome Thai hideaway
DINING REVIEW
Much as every crossroad junction in this state merits a Greek-owned pizza joint, Thai restaurants are becoming a must-have local franchise. Southbridge has climbed that rung on the cosmopolitan ladder with Thai Orchid, a name you’ve heard before in a place you haven’t.

Caffé serves up the best of Italy
DINING REVIEW
If you’re longing for home-cooked, no-frills, classic Italian dining, look no further than Caffé Espresso Trattoria on Wall Street, Worcester.

Joseph’s delivers on its promises
DINING REVIEW
‘Comfort foods and comfort prices” boasts Joseph’s menu — and both promises are true. The restaurant has moved from its prominent location on 2A into the Village Square just behind it. Its new building combines warm woodwork and lighting with friendly service. With an outside deck in nice weather, a toasty sports bar, pleasant but not fancy dining room and a more formal “great room,” Joseph’s accommodates various celebrations.

‘The best’ in Asian fare
DINING REVIEW
The opening of Tenka Asian restaurant along the commercial Route 9 corridor in Westboro caused a ripple of interest, especially because the restaurant positions itself as an Asian bistro and hibachi, sushi lounge that serves meals with Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai influences.

420 Main — steaks and so much more
DINING REVIEW
420 Main is a do-over done well, a nicely appointed Colonial edifice in a town that already boasted some superior dining and in a location where prior restaurant efforts dwelt. The “steakhouse and martini bar” subtitle sounded kind of trendy and niche, but those emphases leave you free to go in other directions.
