Ryan Says Not Looking for Government Shutdown

Updated ET

WASHINGTON—U.S. House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan said Sunday he wasn't pushing for a government shutdown as a budget deadlock continued, and suggested Republicans would seek a short-term extension of the budget to allow negotiations to proceed.

"We're not looking for a government shutdown," Mr. Ryan (R., Wis.) said on CBS's "Face The Nation." "My guess is we will probably have a short-term extension while we negotiate these things with spending cuts," he said.
