While it's fairly common for actresses and models to have bags named after them, now a magazine editor has one too. Dylan Jones, the editor of British GQ, has teamed up with Anya Hindmarch to create a men’s bag, called the Dylan Jones. The bag is described as a sleek attaché case in natural brown leather, lined in woven jacquard and bound in grosgrain ribbon. Inside, there are pockets for a BlackBerry, business cards, keys and a tablet computer. The bag will retail for 1,095 pounds, or $1,760 at current exchange rates. [WWD]

We've told you that flats will be in style for spring, but here's another wrinkle: "flatforms," which marry the ease of a flat with the height of a platform shoe. Kind of like wearing a sandal with a shoe box attached to the bottom. [Telegraph]

Your morning fashion and beauty report: Bright colors on the SAG Awards red carpet, Elie Tahari rolls out the Emmy Rossum handbag, and the apparel world loses two

Rage_SAGAWARDS
It may have been overcast Sunday, but, as our fashion critic Booth Moore reports, the red carpet at the SAG Awards was full of vibrant hues, with young stars Jennifer Lawrence and Mila Kunis among the standouts. [Los Angeles Times]

Birkin bag, eat your heart out: According to Women's Wear Daily, fashion designer Elie Tahari and actress Emmy Rossum have collaborated on a handbag that will roll out to retailers (including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue) in March. The bag will be available in four sizes at a price range of $398 to $798, and a  portion of all proceeds will go to a charity, WWD reports. [WWD, subscription required]

The apparel world has lost two notable names: Gretchen Clarke, 78, who helped build Waltah Clarke's Hawaiian Shops into what was once the country's largest retailer of aloha wear (without whom we would not have the shortened version of the muumuu known as the "mini muu") [Los Angeles Times]; and fashion designer Charles Nolan, 53, who, in addition to designing an eponymous label -- and stints at Anne Klein and Ellen Tracy -- took a hiatus from the fashion world in 2003 to work on the presidential campaign of former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean. [Los Angeles Times]

Your morning fashion and beauty report: Halloween inspirations from Taylor Momsen and 'Glee's' version of 'Rocky Horror'

Glee
-- Our Jenn Harris has given you a lot of Halloween costume ideas recently, but here's another one, thanks to FabSugar: Taylor Momsen. The rocker and "Gossip Girl" actress can be recreated with some thigh-high fishnets, a slashed tank, short skirt, matte maroon lips and lots of eye makeup. Lots.

-- For more Halloween fashion inspiration be sure to tune in Tuesday night when the cast of "Glee" recreates "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Think of the costume possibilities; Dr. Frankenfurter, Magenta, Riff Raff -- my head is spinning!

-- I never quite think of Hogwarts and fashion at the same time, but now comes word -- possible spoiler ahead -- that Fleur Delacour (played by Clemence Posey) will wear a wedding gown very, very, very similar to a dress from Alexander McQueen's 2008 collection. [Lela London]

-- Designer Issey Miyake has been tapped to receive Japan's prestigious Order of Culture, which is slated to be bestowed by Emperor Akihito next week at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. [WWD]

-- Japan Fashion Week wrapped up its five days of runway shows last week, but the event attracted fewer international buyers than usual. [WWD] (Subscription required)

-- California pro surfer and part-time model Anastasia Ashley appeared on MTV's "World of Jenks" Monday and talked with host Tom Jenks about topics both personal and more public -- such as their shared enthusiasm for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal, for which they have both been spokespeople. [Contact Music]

-- Olivier Theyskens, already designing the Theyskens for Theory line that will debut for spring, has been named creative director for the Theory label. [WWD] (Subscription required)

-- Elie Tahari is telling people his passport is his new fashion accessory. In less than a month, the designer has been tending to business in Newport Beach (where he opened a boutique at Fashion Island), Beverly Hills, London, Istanbul, Turkey, Israel and New York. [WWD]

-- Christian Siriano plans to expand his, um, cheap shoe line for Payless to 20 styles for fall 2011. [The Cut]

Elie Tahari, Jonathan Adler go big at Fashion Island

Ja_Atmost
I set sail for Fashion Island in Newport Beach on Thursday night, for the twin grand-opening celebrations of Elie Tahari's newest store  (which our colleague Emili Vesilind told you about here) and the Jonathan Adler outpost right next door.

Both boutiques were mobbed with well-heeled Orange Coasters (Orange Coastians? Orange Coastites?) -- no doubt a good sign for the two local charities that were each getting 15% of sales at the private cocktail party (Four Pearls of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation and the Orangewood Children's Foundation).

Clocking in at 2,500 square feet, Tahari's new space is the designer's first freestanding boutique in California (and largest outside New York), and showcases the women’s, men’s and accessories collections. Designed in collaboration with Italian architect and interior designer Piero Lissoni, it's an elegant midcentury space appointed with pieces like an Edward Wormley Dunbar sofa and magazine tables, a Noguchi coffee table and a pair of Hans Wegner cane chairs.

But the neighboring Jonathan Adler space next door felt positively cavernous by comparison. "It's twice as large as our previously biggest store," said company President David Frankel of the 4,600-square-foot cavalcade of color and warehouse of whimsy that replaces a 900-square-foot pop-up that once existed elsewhere in the same shopping center.

Elie Tahari greets his (somewhat rabid) fans at Saks Fifth Avenue Beverly Hills

K0296-0446 At a runway show Wednesday night at Saks Fifth Avenue, Elie Tahari proved that there's more to his ultra-wearable collection than sharp suiting.

The New York-based designer, whose eponymous collection boasts a sprawling (and I mean big) in-store shop at the Beverly Hills department store, hosted a cocktail party and runway presentation showcasing his fall 2010 collection to benefit the Junior League. Ten percent of all purchases made throughout the evening went to benefit the organization's charities.

And while the impeccably cut-but-basic trousers, neo-blazers and coats Tahari is known for were present and accounted for, there was also a sweeping new theatricality to the line, as seen in luxurious knitwear pieces, including a two-tiered cable-knit cape, a calf-grazing camel-colored shrug and a marled-knit hip-length belted vest — all of which elongated the body beautifully.

"It's all about traveling and glamour and Marlene Dietrich in 'Shanghai Express,'" Tahari said after the show. "We want to look fresh and look modern and sophisticated, but without making it trendy — but of course, there have to be some trends in it."

The reception accompanying Tahari's appearance at the show was something close to thunderous, with dozens of guests and Junior League members lining up to take photos with the designer, who describes his current customer as "smart and hot."

Tahari is also in town to fete his newly expanded store at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. "We have so many clients in that neighborhood," Tahari said of the revamped O.C. outpost. "It's definitely our demographic." The brand will host an invite-only party in tandem with home guru Jonathan Adler — who has a brand new store in the center — on Thursday night.

Michelle the Muse: first lady-inspired clothing

Getprev We touted Talbots as “One to watch in 2009” back in a January issue, and now Michelle Obama dons a dress from the recently made-over line on the May cover of Essence magazine. Talbots is actually looking a lot more like J. Crew now --particularly the way its catalogs are styled, so the line is probably familiar territory to the first lady.

But it’s not just what she is wearing that is intriguing, it’s the possibility of what she could wear that has designers inspired. With the world watching to see what she’ll wear next, it’s no surprise that Michelle Obama has become a muse to many.
