History

Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business was founded in 1957 as an outgrowth of Georgetown’s Foreign Service School. Since its inception, Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business has sought to prepare business students for global leadership by combining critical study of core business disciplines with practical application and international experience.

All of Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business:

Robert Emmett McDonough

In 1998, the school received a $30 million gift from Robert Emmett McDonough, a 1949 graduate of Georgetown’s Walsh School of Foreign Service. The largest single gift in the history of Georgetown University, the McDonough School of Business was renamed in his honor.

In 1965, Mr. McDonough founded Remedy Intelligent Staffing, a temporary staffing service. He opened the first office in 1965 in Riverside, CA, and built the company to over 260 offices throughout the United States.

Throughout his life, Mr. McDonough served Georgetown in a variety leadership positions including membership on the Alumni Association Board of Governors, the McDonough School of Business Board of Advisors, and Georgetown Club of Orange County, California. He also served four terms on the Georgetown University Board of Directors. Mr. McDonough passed away in 2007.
