Designer Catherine Walker dies aged 65

princess diana catherine walker.jpgDesigner to Princess Diana, Catherine Walker, has sadly passed away following a long battle with breast cancer.

Born in France, Walker moved to London where she met her husband, JohnWalker, whom she had two daughters with. He was tragically killed in an accident in 1975., and a year later she started her career in fashion, setting up her own company in Chelsea. Walker is best known for her bespoke designers that featuring draping and embellishment. She worked as a tailor, dressmaker and bridal designer for society ladies including Lady Helen Taylor.

She is also renowned for making over 1,000 outfits for Princess Diana, whom she befriended just three months after Diana married Prince Charles. Their friendship lasted until Diana died in 1997. Walker even created the black dress that Diana was laid to rest in.

A family funeral service will be held this week for the designer, with a memorial service scheduled for next month. Walker was 65 years old.
