Laugher, 15, became Britain's first world junior champion since 1999 when he won 1m springboard gold in Tucson, Arizona earlier this month.

He followed it up with 3m gold, meaning that the English pair now hold three world titles after Tom Daley's 10m triumph last year at the World Championships in Rome. Both will be in action in their respective events at the Commonwealth Games later this week.

"They both have a great future and seem them diving so well and it's exciting to see," Louganis, 50, said. "You don't get a sense of their talent until you see them up close in person.

"They are both very young and have a wonderful future ahead of them. I was impressed by their strength which is a tremendous asset. You have to have that nowadays with the dives they have to produce.

Louganis returned to the sport in May as mentor to the US team for the London 2012 Olympics after nearly two decades away from the sport. One of his first tasks was to attend the junior event in Arizona.

He added: "They are going in the right direction to win world titles in the coming years. Everybody is chasing China. There are a few talents out there who are capable of beating them and Tom and Jack are in that bracket.
