The Suffering: Ties That Bind for Xbox
How could you have done such a horrible thing? This is the question that constantly plagues Torque, the main protagonist of The Suffering and its sequel, in which you must continue his journey into a world of chaos and madness as he is haunted by his dead family. This is The Suffering: Ties That Bind for the Xbox. (more…)
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne for Xbox
Two years after the events of the first award-winning Max Payne, the detective is back for another installment chronicling his downfall in a series of betrayals, backroom dealings, and an all around excellent noir story. This is Max Payne 2: The Downfall of Max Payne for the Xbox. (more…)
Grand Theft Auto III for PS2
GTA games take me back to the days when I was in high school, and my friend Zach and I would play “car baseball,” a game where you drive a car with the door open and hit pedestrians walking on the street with it.
Of course, this wasn’t in real life. It was in Grand Theft Auto III. (more…)

X-Arcade Tankstick Controller
Classic Game Room reviews the X-ARCADE TANKSTICK from X-Arcade powered by Xgaming. This massive dual arcade joystick with a trak-ball can be used on PCs with USB inputs and on Sega Dreamcast, PS2 (and PS1), GameCube, PS3 and Xbox 360 with the appropriate adapters. Complex, expensive and difficult to program, the X-arcade Tankstick won’t be for those who aren’t serious about their gaming with some time, money and patience on their site. Awesome arcade-style gameplay is delivered when all is said and done though. For this review the Xarcade Tankstick was tested with PC games before and after programming, Mame emulators, PS2 and Sega Dreamcast. CGR recommends the Dreamstick from Dream Arcade for Xbox 360 because it is a 360 controller disassembled and built into an arcade stick to prevent lag. The Tankstick works well with PC, Dreamcast and PS2 (all tested for this review using adapters) but don’t expect to not do repair work on it. Build quality is questionable given the price but it’s nothing a butter knife and a few hours can’t fix, which is irritating. The Tankstick can be purchased as a massive controller as shown or bought with an X-Arcade stand up arcade machine. Versatility and style may be the X-Arcade Tankstick’s biggest assets, but those really interested in a house-sized joystick may also want to consider a custom job for the same price. In any event, it is impressive and replaces the Dreamcast controller which needs replacing for many games like Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
Puzzle Quest Challenge of the Warlords for PSP
When you think puzzles, you may conjure up images of solving a numbers-based grid like Sudoku or playing something simple, but addictive like Bejewled. What you probably don’t think of is matching up colored tiles so that you can slay orcs and rats with magical attacks. Yet that strange combination is what has been created. Not to mention how it has met with astonishing success at how fun it is and how well it works. This is Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords for the Playstation Portable. (more…)

Mega Man X2 for SNES/PS2
When it comes to sequels, Capcom is no stranger to them. And when Mega Man X became a hit, another entry following its storyline was inevitable. And how good is it? Pretty good. With new moves, new enemies, and the great platforming gameplay of the first one, this is Mega Man X2 for the Super Nintendo and being played on the Playstation 2 compilation disc of Mega Man X Collection. Pelican Accessories PS1 & PS2 Joystick
Classic Game Room reviews the PELICAN ACCESSORIES Playstation 1 and 2 Joystick for use with PS2 and PS1 fighting games and other videogames where an “arcade style” joystick is preferred. This cheap, palstic fighting stick for the PS2 and PS1 can be used to play Playstation fighters like Tekken 2 and 3 or Virtua Fighter 4 (among many others). It has the standard Playstation buttons and L1, R1, L2 and R2. A joystick with arcade style ball top is acceptable, as long as you don’t pay much for this odd-looking controller. Rubber pads with “nubbins” seem to be the standout feature on the Pelican Accessories PS2 fighting joystick. This CGR video review of Playstation 2 and PS1 hardware reviews a Pelican Accessories fighting style arcade joystick for PS2.

Katamari Damacy for PS2
There are twin sumo wrestlers walking down a dock in their outfits while a man dangles a carrot from a fishing pole to lure a toy horse in the water to him. And diving from one side of the water to the other is a swimmer leading a school of fish. This crazy, confusing, and unexplainable depiction of our world can only be part of Katamari Damacy for the Playstation 2. (more…)

Freekstyle for PS2/Gamecube
Freekstyle is an over the top motocross game by EA Sports BIG. Freekstyle is much like NBA Street, SSX, Sled Storm, MLB Slugfest, and NBA Jam. It’s a game that takes the traditional Motocross sport and makes it bigger and wackier.
Freekstyle, plays a lot like SSX, and you can really feel it in the control scheme. That’s not to say it’s exactly the same, but it’s obvious that it was made by the same company. (more…)

The Punisher for Xbox
When it comes to criminals, Frank Castle is one sadistic man. Hence why he is known as The Punisher. And he makes his debut, and only, appearance on the Xbox in this brutally graphic, but equally fun shooter. This is The Punisher for the Xbox.
Wolverine may claim to be the best at what he does, but in this third-person shooter that title belongs to Frank Castle. It would not be a stretch to call this action game one of the most bloodthirsty games period. (more…)

Dragon Ball Z Budokai for PS2
A surprisingly good fighting game that is based off an anime? And it’s accessible to fighting novices while still keeping some depth to it? Believe it or not, it’s true. This is Dragon Ball Z: Budokai for the Playstation 2.
True to the show’s combative nature, this is a fighting game. Players can take one of the twenty-three playable characters to duke it out in head to head duels, a world tournament, a story mode, or just for practice. (more…)

Destroy All Humans for PS2
When you think of sandbox games, what do you think of? The Grand Theft Auto series obviously. Now imagine Grand Theft Auto but the main character is an alien. Now, being an alien you must have a few advantages over being a human because aliens are awesome. Not that I have anything against humans. I just think they should be destroyed!
The story consists of homicidal alien Cryptosporidium going to earth in search of his clone. It’s fairly interesting as you compete with the military and the CIA going around the environments which are very varied. It takes place in the 50s in a variety of different places and you can travel to all of them via the mother ship. (more…)

Freedom Fighters for PS2
As good as Red Dawn was, the only problem with it is that it never spawned a video game. Fans of the movie never got to defend their home country from invading Russian forces on their home consoles. Until 2003, when IO Interactive realized this mistake by the movie’s producers and developed a game that, while not based on the movie, is heavily influenced by it. This is Freedom Fighters for the Playstation 2. (more…)

CGR Undertow – NHL Hitz 2002 for Xbox
Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of NHL Hitz 2002 from Black Box Games and Midway Games for the Xbox. The game is also available for the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube. NHL Hitz 2002 is a caricature of hockey, and while often barbaric, it also exaggerates the speed, power and artistry for which the game is also known. NHL Hitz 2002 is a game of three-on-three hockey in which you can shoot, you can pass and you can check. It boils hockey down to those fundamental elements, leaving things like rules and penalties back at the blue line. This video review features video gameplay footage of NHL Hitz 2002 for the Xbox and audio commentary from Classic Game Room’s Derek.

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus for PS2
In most cases, grand larceny will result in a long time in some sort of prison, whether federal, local, or some other kind. Not so for the Cooper Gang, who are out to play a halfway version of a pseudo Robin Hood by robbing from the rich but keeping for themselves. Make no mistake though. They are the good guys, even if they rob from people. More so robbing from dangerous, evil criminals and hoarding their new found wealth for themselves and their activities, all while dodging a tenacious inspector and landing said other criminals in jail. This is Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus for the Playstation 2. (more…)
CGR Undertow – Guitar Hero: World Tour for Nintendo Wii
Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Guitar Hero: World Tour from Vicarious Visions and Activision for the Nintendo Wii. Guitar Hero: World Tour is also available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. World Tour fleshes out the traditional Guitar Hero experience with the ability to play as a full band. Vocals, drums, bass and guitar are supported in World Tour, making it the first Guitar Hero to use the now-standard Rock Band formula. Despite the over-saturation of rhythm games, playing as a band with a bunch of friends is social gaming perfection, and that still applies to World Tour. This video review features video gameplay footage of Guitar Hero: World Tour for the Nintendo Wii and audio commentary from Classic Game Room’s Derek.

CGR Undertow – Ecco: The Tides of Time for Sega Genesis
Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow video game review of Ecco: The Tides of Time for the Sega Genesis by Novotrade International. Everyone’s favorite time traveling dolphin returns in the sequel to the innovative underwater platformer, Ecco the Dolphin. In another quest to save the planet from the evil Vortex Queen, Ecco needs to navigate not only the depths of the ocean, but streams of time, in this surreal and still frustratingly difficult follow-up. Improved graphics and a few gameplay additions including animal transformations and the expansion of an already bizarre storyline will likely please fans of the series. This review features Ecco: The Tides of Time gameplay footage from the Sega Genesis Collection on the Playstation 2, and commentary from CGR Undertow reviewer Kevin.

CGR Undertow – Kid Chameleon for Sega Genesis
Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow video game review of Kid Chameleon for the Sega Genesis. A side scrolling cult classic with attitude, you play as the multi-faceted Kid Chameleon, who’s “too tough to beat.” Luckily you can change into a variety of suits to take on Heady Metal, an evil video game boss in a virtual reality game that is abducting anyone who plays it. With over 90 levels ahead of you, you can transform into a knight, samurai, hockey mask wearing axe murderer, skeleton tank driver, and plenty of other bizarre forms. CGR Undertow – Ecco the Dolphin for Sega Genesis
Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow video game review of Ecco the Dolphin for the Sega Genesis by Novotrade International. Ecco is on a quest to rescue his pod from aliens in this innovative underwater platform game released in 1992. Its colorful art style and forward thinking interface design come together for a unique 16-bit gaming experience with an eco-friendly twist. And as cute as this little dolphin might be, underneath this game’s appearance lurks a brutally challenging mind trip with lots of dark and intense atmosphere. CGR Undertow – Bonanza Bros. for Sega Genesis
Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow video game review of Bonanza Bros. for the Sega Genesis. In this 1990 arcade classic from Sega, you control the skilled thieves Robo and Mobo, with two primary objectives: steal and escape. In Japanese versions of the game, they were actually burglars, but for western versions you’re “testing security” by stealing various items from banks and mansions, and dodging any of the cops in your path. It’s a platform game very reminiscent of the 1983 Atari classic Keystone Capers, but with the addition of 2 player cooperative play and plenty of other gameplay enhancements. This CGR Undertow video game review features Bonanza Bros. gameplay footage from the Sega Genesis Collection on the PlayStation 2 (PS2), and commentary from CGR Undertow reviewer Kevin.

Space Gun for Arcade
When I say “space” and “gun” in a video game, you probably think Dead Space, Doom, Alien vs. Predator or countless other games that have something to do with this large sub-genre. This isn’t any of those. It is Space Gun by Taito. A very literal name for what the game is about. (more…)

Grand Theft Auto III for PS2
What can I say about Grand Theft Auto III (GTA III)? It’s been reviewed and reviewed again. What can I say that could be new, something that you’ve never heard of?
Not much.
GTA III is the game that started the whole “open world phenomenon” that has populated from 2001 to now. It inspired its numerous spinoffs, most of which are better than GTA III itself. It also inspired numerous knockoffs, most of which are inferior to GTA III. (more…)

Text Review Manhunt 2 for Nintendo Wii
Back in 2003 Rockstar took a quick break from their GTA series to release Manhunt, a dark and extremely violent stealth action game. It may not have been as exceptionally well received as Rockstar’s other games, but it at least managed to gain enough of a following to warrant a sequel. But the release of Manhunt 2 is a sad chapter in video game history, one that is probably more well-known than the game itself. The ESRB thought the game was too violent and gave it the dreaded AO-rating. (more…)

Text Review Half-Life for PC
By Jared Whisenand
Few games will ever hold the title of genre defining; let alone shaping an entire platform. It takes a combination of story, graphics, gameplay, and innovation to ever come close to achieving such a lofty goal. Half-Life, the timeless classic from Valve, managed to do both.
You start the game as newly arrived scientist, Gordon Freemen. Hired by a group known as Black Mesa, you are quickly thrown into an experiment that goes horrible wrong. After the ensuing chaos slows down, you find that a hole to another dimension has been ripped open – leaving you with little choice but to try your best to escape from the complex before the creatures crossing over manages to end your life. Create for PS3
Classic Game Room reviews CREATE for Playstation 3 PS3 from EA, also available for Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC / Mac computers. Create is an average combine-things-to-solve-puzzles kind of game with above average graphics and presentation. It shares much with numerous games on Nintendo DS and iPod / iPhone but adds a creation and modification element where you can animate the environments and brings theme parks and stadiums to life. Developed by Bright Light Create is a puzzle edit creation game that works with the Playstation Move controller on PS3 as well as the standard control. Rated E This CGR review of Create has gameplay from Create showing Create game play on PS3 during a Create video review.

Text Review King of Fighters XI for PS2
Like horror films, there’s almost no functional point to reviewing a King of Fighters (KOF) game. It has its built-in audience that will buy and love it, critics be damned. Spider-Man: Friend or Foe is a standard action/beat ‘em up video game, drawing from the highly successful Spider-Man film franchise, add in a the ever popular symbiotes and the game can be enjoyable. However, if you are tired of the symbiotes then you may get tired of the retreaded plot lines. CGR Undertow – Spider-Man 3 for Nintendo Wii
Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow video game review of SPIDER-MAN 3 on the Nintendo Wii. Spider-Man 3 was released in 2007 to tie-in with the major motion picture. While Spider-Man 2, its predecessor was a huge fan favorite, this one never quite lived up to those heights in this video game with everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! This CGR Undertow review features Spider-Man 3 video gameplay footage and analysis from Classic Game Room’s Ray.
