Yemen: Secretary Clinton Deplores Violence
Following the massacring of over 40 protesters in San’a, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton issued a statement condemning the violence and called for Yemeni security forces to “exercise maximum restraint, refrain from violence, and permit citizens to freely and peacefully express their views.” Clinton asserted: “The Yemeni people, like people everywhere, have the universal rights to demonstrate peacefully, to freely assemble, and to express themselves without fear of intimidation or death. A solution to Yemen’s problems will not be found through security measures.” She urged dialogue and for the grievances of the Yemeni people to be addressed in an open and transparent process.
