"Man, Know Thyself!" Print E-mail
The donkey implied ignorance to Ancient Africans because it could carry knowledge of eternal life on its back and sell it for a sip of water. As an admonition to the people to shed similar ignorance for rebirth, Ancient Egyptians carved on the walls of their temples: "Man, Know Thyself". As early as 5500 BC they taught in the Egyptian Mystery Schools the esoteric doctrines of Osiris on how to do this. The ultimate objective was to reach the heaven Afterlife via the Aaru field of the Egyptian paradise (borrowed by Homer as the Elysian Fields)-- and also called the Amenta, Duat, and Dwat. Besides a pure heart, preparation required knowing the Truth of one's Ka; one's Amenta ("hidden") source; one's method of redemption; the Seven Liberal Arts (for evolution and emancipation of the soul); a workable method of meditation (which leads into "nothingness" so as to become aware of Amenta's inner-most reality); the engagement in contemplation (focusing on the essence of Truth until one dissolves into it); and the living in Ma'at. Redemption (working on one's own salvation) starts with mental emancipation by mastering the passions in order to make room for the occupation of unlimited divine powers (Bynum, African Unconscious p242, 234). The African Ka is a human's divine spirit--an astral body received at birth. At death, it steps outside the body (and many relatives leave provisions next to the deceased for the Ka to use). Just as man is made in the image of God, so is the Ka unique to an individual. It is also universal to all mankind.

The Amenta, constituting both a human's subconscious mind and the cosmic darkness of the night, acquired its power when God created it and heaven by the power of vibration, by sound, and by the Wordâ€"some of which remains embodied in every living thing upon earth (i.e. the Substance). This realm does not include ghosts, angels, or evil spirits as is commonly understood by non-mystical traditions. Inside Amenta's cosmic astral darkness is a Yin/Yang--like world of laws and shadows which serves as the soul's domain of the intermediate life in its journey through to heaven (Seleem, Egyptian Book of Life p38, 50, 56). Knowing the Amenta gives insights into the deeper levels of the cosmos and of the unconscious human mind â€"whether dealing with concepts of right (gods and goddesses) or concepts of wrong (demons). Reaching the Amenta requires forgiveness of all the guilty and complete release of any pain and suffering. Upon stepping into the Amenta, one's inner vision is expanded by activating the pineal gland (third eye); by sharpening one's extrasensory powers; and by dissociating one's selfhood from consciousness. Now, one is able to see spiritual beings (King, African Origin of Biological Psychiatry p22).

Next, one will either join Ra in his boat or join Asar (God) in Djedduâ€"the plane beyond space, time, and thought (Ashby, African Origins 116, 526, 564). Thereafter, one's illuminated spiritual consciousness bathes in unity with nature, like a baby unified with its mother. A mystical death has occurred and there is a regeneration rebirth with knowledge of one's deeper eternal self. The resultant creative genius enhancement gives one god-like power for use on earth. By drawing on the bottomless well of wisdom hidden in one's Amenta, grains of truth are perceived to give knowledge with the power to perform masterpiecesâ€"hence the African expression: "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER."

Yet, while being in the Amenta, if one chooses demons then separation occurs from Divine consciousness, from the Divine, from righteousness, and from the worthwhile positive. Thus, one is doomed to continue with reincarnation-- to once again be born in the world of time and space so as to suffer the limitations of youth, the trials and tribulations of adulthood, and the pain of diseases and death.
