A US war plane has crash landed in Libya during a third night of allied air strikes against Colonel Gaddafi's forces.

The plane, which is British-based, came down in the east of the country, in rebel held territory. Both crew members are said to be safe.

During the night explosions and anti-aircraft fire were heard near Colonel Gaddafi's compound in Tripoli.

Allan Little reports from Tripoli.
