Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which ISBN to order?

Our books are often customzed by professors. When professors adopt textbooks and indicate they plan to customize their textbooks, they are assigned a unique ISBN. It is very important that you get the proper ISBN from the professor. Professors that are not customizing can use the canonical ISBN as listed on our books in the catalog. If you are not sure, call us and we will help find the right version for you.

How much lead time do I need to place an order with Flat World Knowledge so the books get here on time?

We are pretty quick. As soon as we receive your order, we send it to our printers and ship it to you. It usually takes between 3–5 business days depending on where in the country you are located. International orders take longer. Please note that before the start of a semester we will hold books until a few weeks before classes start to allow professors to customize books. We want to allow professors the maximum time to customize their books.

Do I need a different ISBN to order color versions of books vs. black and white versions?

Yes. If the professor specifically wants color make sure you use the color ISBN. Call us if you are not sure of the ISBN.

Can I just order books by title?

We strongly suggest you confirm the ISBN with professors and confirm whether they are planning on customizing. Many professors choose to customize their book and the generic ISBN for our canonical version will cause you to buy the non‑customized version of the book.

How do I find out more about your bookstore pilots?

Flat World is working with a small number of bookstores on some very innovative pilots. Email bookstores@flatworldknowledge.com or call 203‑891‑6027 for more information.

Did the professor want a custom version?

Our texts can be customized. If the professor wants to order a custom version, he or she should provide the custom ISBN we assigned upon adoption. If you are not sure, call us.
