Google may do it right and may do it best. But especially when it comes to its autocomplete and instant features google search is first of all a new form of normalisation: Find what the majority of people is looking for, not you! Find what makes you spend time and money, not what makes you learn and think. Just try a search query with every letter of the alphabet: What comes to your mind first? Compare this to who owns the alphabet on google.com: http://www.autocomplete.org/218/english/who-owns-the-alphabet/

It's pointless to have other good options if Google has the best there is. Google has everything because they do it right (and have a lot of money to chuck into a fire... but mainly they do it right). Granted, just like every other corporation, they make mistakes and get greedy at times. But Google isn't bad, it may become so one day, but it isn't now.
