Mumsnet TV series to 'help and advise' mums

By Adam Sherwin

The influential parenting forum Mumsnet is to expand from the internet to a television series in which members give advice to mothers.

Courted and feared alike by politicians, lest they offend its 600,000 members, Mumsnet has become a valuable brand. It is now working with Channel 4 on a show with the working title The Bad Mums' Club.

Channel 4 said the series would tap into Mumsnet's network of members, who will offer "solutions and tips" for coping with children across a range of age groups.

Justine Roberts, Mumsnet co-founder, said: "We are excited to be working with (producers) Studio Lambert on the series. Our members are in a good place to help and advise mums who might be struggling. We believe it will be a sympathetic series, not sensationalised."

Dominique Walker, Channel 4's factual commissioning editor, said: "Modern mums are increasingly turning to peer-to-peer networks such as Mumsnet for support and advice and it is exactly the resource that this programme will utilise; the combined experience of mums across the UK."

Politicians regularly submit to a Mumsnet grilling over their views on disposable nappies. Representatives of the forum met the BBC to air concerns over an EastEnders cot death storyline.

Mumsnet has also launched campaigns against the sexualisation of children and backed greater help for women who miscarry.
