Sony's
PlayStation Network major outage continued into a third day due to an "external intrusion." Some suspect Internet hackers are to blame, but the actual source of the network failure hasn't been officially announced. Brief downtimes on more complex large scale networks are understandable, but a multi-day outage on one that's been in production for years is an alarming failure that should have been prevented.

Because it requires little power,
Bluetooth network technology can be used in personal network devices. One example of a practical application is the
BodyMedia Armband BW - an exercise armband with an integrated Bluetooth transmitter. This armband sends data from attached sensors to a nearby smartphone set up with the
BodyMedia FIT system.

One of our readers comments: "In my experience, Pirate Bay is the best P2P site going. Ease of use - never got a virus - and they let downloaders leave comments. Just by reading a few of these comments, you can tell if the torrent is bulls%!* . Once you establish a rapport with one of the more prominent uploaders, they'll usually have what you're lookin' for. I suggest however you first download Miro, and from there you can download Pirate Bay. Good luck and enjoy, but most of all be careful!"

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the creation of
File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Although FTP isn't nearly as prevalent as it was 10 years ago, many of us out there continue to use it on a fairly regular basis for downloading or uploading private documents from company networks and the Web. Nor do I expect FTP to disappear anytime soon. Other protocols like
SSH offer similar capabilities and even better security, but simpler technologies are often better.
