Many Torontonians were up extra early Friday morning as they tuned into the lavish wedding of Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton.
About 300 people — many of them in flamboyant hats — attended a viewing party in the wee hours of the morning at the Inn on the Park, a conference centre near Leslie Street and Eglinton Avenue West .
Guests watched the ceremony on a big screen in a ballroom decorated in royal gold and purple.
"Well everyone loves them, you know. They are just so natural," said Terry Mackintosh, speaking of the newlyweds.
Actor Jim Carey's sister Rita also appeared at the viewing, and wore a wide brimmed hat.
"This is history being made so I am glad to be part of it," she said.
John Neretlis, the general manager of the Inn on the Park organized the party. "We thought it would be fun. and we thought it would probably be the biggest watched event around the world," he said.
Dress was 'classic'

There were many other viewing parties all over the city, including one in the Canadian Broadcasting Centre on Front Street and one organized by Coun. Sarah Doucette at Swansea Town Hall just west of High Park.
And at the Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto, royals fan Lindsay said she was most impressed by the fashion choices.
"We were all excited about Kate's dress and it didn't disappoint. We were so excited," she said. "It was classic, but it was really gorgeous, a classic tribute to McQueen," referring to the fashion design house of Alexander McQueen.
"Today was fantastic. It was exactly what we had wanted. We've been excited about this for a long time so it was great," she said.
The wedding was watched by an estimated two billion people worldwide.
