RONALDO has been credited with the first goal in Brazil's 5-2 win over Costa Rica after Fifa reversed the decision to put it down as an own goal.

The Inter hit-man raced in at the front post and prodded the ball goalwards in a scramble that saw defender Luis Marin bundle the ball into his own net.

Ronaldo was furious when he realised the goal was to be credited to Marin as an own goal, and protested to officials after the game, and seems to have not got his way.

The goal means that he has now grabbed four goals in three games, and is only one goal behind Germany's Miroslav Klose in the race for the golden boot.

"I have no doubt that I scored the first goal," said a pleased Ronaldo.

"The norm is that when a striker kicks a ball, even if it comes off a defender, it is given to the striker because the striker has the intention to score."

Fifa originally had the goal down as an own goal but have decided that the striker should be given t he goal as his shot was going on target.
