Since he started studying painting to be an artist
in the Netherlands, Vincent van Gogh had reproduced
the works of Jean-François Millet he respected
for the rest of his life. During his stay in Saint-Rémy,
Province (1889-1890), when he had already established
his own style, he also eagerly tried to express
prints in oil paintings.
One of them is "La fin de la Journée"
(the End of the Day), where the evening scenery
around the farmers is painted with his unique rough
pointillistic touches. Vivid yellow and violet colors
arranged in the sky show that he pursued his own
color expression through Millet's motif and composition.
In that sense, this is a precious work.
