THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER: Audio Samples Of Entire 'Ritual' Album Available - May 7, 2011
Michigan's unstoppable sons of molten melodic death metal THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER will release their new album, "Ritual", in Europe on June 17 and in North America on June 21 via Metal Blade Records. The effort will also be available as a box set, limited to 2,000 units including special, exclusive digibook, witch board, magic wand, sage, incense sticks and coffin nails. The CD was once again be produced by Mark Lewis (TRIVIUM, BURY YOUR DEAD, DEICIDE), who also worked on 2009's "Deflorate".

"Ritual" track listing:

01. A Shrine To Madness
02. Moonlight Equilibrium
03. On Stirring Seas Of Salted Blood
04. Conspiring With The Damned
05. The Window
06. Carbonized In Cruciform
07. Den Of The Picquerist
08. Malenchanments Of The Necrosphere
09. The Grave Robber's Work
10. The Raven
11. Great Burning Nullifier
12. Blood In The Ink

Audio samples of all the tracks that are set to appear on "Ritual" are available for streaming at Amazon.com.

Frontman Trevor Strnad considers "Ritual" "the most focused THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER strike of all time."

"The whole thread of the songs is more tied together than ever before," explains Strnad. "Part of it was kind of like, 'What can we do that's the most BLACK DAHLIA MURDER thing? What's going to be the most quintessential BLACK DAHLIA MURDER thing we can do?' That's kind of what we set our foothold in. And 'Ritual', it just lends itself to that — it's mysticism and magic and all of that. Everyone has an association with some kind of ritual, so we just thought it was the next logical step."

Recalling the writing process that led to "Ritual"'s eventual 12 songs, Strnad says that "every song that got brought forth was exciting and more three-dimensional, more twists and turns, more surprises. There's more ups and downs and taking people on a journey this time."

Co-founder Brian Eschbach, meanwhile, credits the presence of fellow guitarist Ryan Knight, who joined the band for "Deflorate", with helping to move things forward on this particular venture.

"It's been more collaborative than it's been in years," Eschbach notes. "The last two albums ('Deflorate' and 2007's 'Nocturnal') I wrote most of the music, and this one it's almost a 50-50 effort between me and (Knight). He lifted what we were doing on the last album so much from what we've done before, his different techniques and stylings that he knows how to wield. It's really exciting for us to have that be part of the band now." Strnad adds that Knight "is an educated musician, and he's brought that kind of aspect into the band, too. We came to him having higher expectations, and he's exceeded all of those."

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER has crammed quite a bit into its 10 years together — five albums, three EPs and a DVD (2009's "Majesty") — and the group members themselves seem a bit surprised by what they've wrought. "Yeah, initially we thought we were going to get together on Sundays and try to put a song together every week," Eschbach recalls. "We never dreamed of being able to live off the band." But Strnad says it didn't take long to sense that they could.

"We had the vision that we wanted to take the band to more people, that we wanted to have something bigger than just playing at the crappy ass local bar," he explains. "Being a metal band, I think, is being an underdog. To play music you know is not digestible on purpose, to preach to a certain kind of depraved person...It's a lofty goal to have anyone want to hear what we have to say. We've been really, really lucky, but at the same time we're always looking to the future and trying to do what we do better and better.

"And I would say this time, with 'Ritual', we really nailed it even harder than we have before."

"Deflorate" sold around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 43 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on September 15, 2009 via Metal Blade, the CD was produced by THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, Mark Lewis and Jason Suecof (BENEATH THE MASSACRE, JOB FOR A COWBOY), with mixing duties handled by Suecof. According to a press release, "Deflorate" is "a multifaceted death trip: beautiful, evil, and morbidly addicting. THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER's fourth thrashing epic sees no punch pulled, no gravestone unturned, no soul uncorrupted."

the stuff no one says anything bad about...really!?? Goes to show most people don't understand talent...I've seen these guys, and I've tried numerous times to get into them...I got all their albums even! I listened to all the clips...if you heard one song, you've heard em all...there is no structure going on...there are no riffs...it's all blast beated nothing....I mean, I can tolerate cuz I LOVE metal...so I can listen to it and maybe find a few elements to enjoy, I suppose...but the fact that people can sit here and be like, "AMAZING! TRUE ART! How can they write so good!" It's like...really? This is the same people that calls Limp Bizkit immature kid music, lol. This is what all metal is starting to sound like...good riffing is no longer meaningfull...writing offensive lyrics doesn't mean anything, cuz you can't understand two words in the song. I mean, I love Cradle of Filth...whom I think blow these guys out of the water...and I know they do a lot of this style, but they also incoorperate great headbaning riffs in there...I can understand Dani's lyrics better than this guy...and the same people who love this, probably say Cradle is immature...that's not true metal...blah blah blah...I'm not here to pick on this band...but just prove a point. I go on threads of Ozzy and see nothing but hate. See Creed, Godsmack, Disturbed articles and see how their songs sound the same...really? And this doesn't?! lol. At least they have lyrics that impact certain people...I'd rather hear Dave screaming about his mother, or their religous differences than hear a guy moaning and growling in a mic...with no values or importance. I've written metal for many years now...I don't promote my stuff, but I do know what is harder to make...and a song that people can hear everything and pay attention to what each musician is playing and every word the singer is saying is a much more difficult process than this...despite what everyone else believes...

As far as I've seen, 99% of positive comments being your one of the very few negative. And I see you just got 8 times thumbed down. Can you consider, that maybe you are... wrong?

I literally logged in to give your "thoughts" a thumbs down. You can't even begin compare Cradle and Dahlia, they are two completely different genres of metal. However, both bands are equally talented and unique in both of their syles. Both bands have used and continue to use the sounds and methods set forth by their godfather's of death/heavy metal. Both Dani (cradle vocalist) and Trevor (dahlia vocalist) are equally supreme in their lyrical abilities. I own both complete catalogs of both bands. They both maintain their own ideals why continuing to push the boundaries of their own musical genre. To say that The Black Dahlia Murder has no talent is an obvious statement of your musical ignorance.

Heres where you foolishly attempt to buid credibility for yourself by trying to make everyone beleive that you have done an extensive study into this.

It's like...really? This is the same people that calls Limp Bizkit immature kid music, lol. This is what all metal is starting to sound like...good riffing is no longer meaningfull...writing offensive lyrics doesn't mean anything

Heres where you completely alienate your audiance and loose any credibility you gained with the idiots who bought in the first place.

I mean, I love Cradle of Filth...whom I think blow these guys out of the water...and I know they do a lot of this style, but they also incoorperate great headbaning riffs in there...I can understand Dani's lyrics better than this guy.and the same people who love this, probably say Cradle is immature...that's not true metal...blah blah blah...

Heres where you completely flow off-topic, typically called a run-off.

I'm not here to pick on this band.

Umm...apparently you are.

.but just prove a point.

You state that you are making a point here, but this is much too late as this should have clarified initially. You also insult other bands here while trying to justify an opinion, sort of like an oxymoron.

I've written metal for many years now...I don't promote my stuff, but I do know what is harder to make...and a song that people can hear everything and pay attention to what each musician is playing and every word the singer is saying is a much more difficult process than this...despite what everyone else believes...

Heres where we see who you really are as this insight was not your intention with this statement. You are apparently a struggling musician who just cant grasp onto why certain bands receive more attention and praise than others.

Its simply because of your flawed logic and the fact that you hate on your peers, other musicians. Its funny how it seems you put a lot of effort into your essay here. As you rethink your words, I would rethink your hobby as well.

If you want to contest their ability the shred hard, play fast, and continually write ever improving, quality metal than you should take a hard look at what American metal has been like in the last 10 years. This band has stepped it up on each album and that is something that most of our favorite bands can't even fathom.

They have had lineup changes that result in improvements overall to the sound.

Trevor's vocals continue to evolve and with death style that is a very difficult task.

They are from Detroit so please take a look at what music the midwest has to offer.

They are down to earth dudes who laugh in the face of the "I'm more metal than you" elitist douchebags.

I have seen then several times live and every time is quite an experience.

They constantly tour, constantly record, constantly improve and relentlessly shred. FACEMELT

Ownage is hard to accept broseph so grab them ankles and smell the glove.

They stick to a script. Delivery and evolution; flawlessly excuted. Nothing else matters. Anyone who doesn't understand this is listening to metal for non metal reasons. If you can't understand the success of this band somewhere along the line your brain was rendered metal obsolete.

Great band - own all their albums but I prefer the more traditional death metal sound of Unhallowed. Miasma was a bit too much of a departure from their sound but Nocturnal and Deflorate were a big improvement. First heard these guys when Headbangers ball played the Funeral Thirst video and they were the first new band in years that impressed me enough to buy their album and see them live.
