Apple Peeler Corer: Electric or Manual?

One of the classic kitchen gadgets is an apple peeler corer. These days there are many different options for this classic, probably most intriguing being the electric apple peeler corer, as most of us are used to the ones which you need to manually crank to peel the apple. We decided to take a look at both of these and determine which types make peeling the apples a fun and easy process.

The tried and true favorite amongst apple peeling chefs still remains to be the Back To Basics Apple and Potato Peeler, as pictured below:

Not only is it affordable at under $25 with free shipping, but it also performs effortlessly time and time again. This device does more than peel and core: it is an apple slicer, too! If you’re someone who loves making apple pies or apple sauce, this one can be a huge time saver for many people.

For some however, they may not like the suction base or the care that is necessary with a gadget made out of cast iron to prevent rusting. Some people find that this method can also waste too much flesh of the apple or is messy and cumbersome to use, and so they seek other options.

For that, we have the even more affordable Starfrit Pro Apple Peeler with bonus core ejector and slicer. Now, this gadget looks a little strange, like maybe a toy or space gadget, but we’ve found it to be pretty useful.

Now, this machine does not slice and core the apple at the same time, this one actually comes with a separate slicing blade which will divide the apple into 8 evenly sized wedges. For some, this is a better option, especially if you enjoy making apples as snacks.

If you want an electric option, the only thing we’ve found is the similar Starfrit 93209 Rotato Express. It does not core and slice, and is a bit noisy, but it does peel just about anything.

All in all, these are the top 3 types of apple peelers, corers, and slicers. Of course, there are still many others we did not have time to review. Fortunately, you can check out many more by searching Amazon.com and reading the hundreds of reviews on their site.
