Salt Lake City is looking forward to a gorgeous Mother's Day weekend, with plenty of opportunities to show some love for the moms in our lives. Mother's Day is also the traditional "safe date" in Salt Lake City for tender plants such as annual flowers and tomatoes, so there are lots of fun gardening events this weekend. Finally, it's not too late to register for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, to support breast cancer research and treatment while getting some much-needed exercise outdoors.
- Mother's Day brunch is a holiday tradition in many families, and several Salt Lake area restaurants will be putting on fabulous brunches Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8. If you're still looking for Mother's Day gift ideas, try my list of entertainment tickets for Mother's Day gift giving, or visit the Beehive Bazaar in Provo May 5-7 for unique, handmade gift items.
- If you're looking for garden gifts for Mom, or you just want to get going on your vegetable garden this weekend, you can visit the annual plant sales at Red Butte Garden, Wasatch Community Garden and the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, all taking place Saturday, May 7. Or take a stroll through Thanksgiving Point's fabulous gardens dressed up for the annual Tulip Festival, and take home a few plants from Thanksgiving Point's Garden Path Greenhouse. The festival runs now through Saturday, May 7.
- The 8th annual Live Green SLC! Festival, which takes place Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Library Square, features interactive and educational exhibits, local and organic foods and goods, live auctions, a children's area, eco-carnival games, music, entertainment and much more. This is a free event.
- It's not too late to register for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a 5k run/walk to raise funds for breast cancer research, screening programs and treatment programs, taking place Saturday, May 7 at 8:30 a.m. at the Gateway shopping center. Register in person on Friday, May 6 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the Union Pacific Depot, or register Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Registration fees are $25-$35 in advance, or $45 on race day.
