Remington College Timeline

1985

• Education America, Inc. is founded by Jerald M. (“Jerry”) Barnett, Jr. in January.
• First school is acquired in January as “Education America – Topeka Technical College.”
• First-ever program offerings are Associate of Occupational Studies degrees in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems, and diplomas in Legal Assisting and Medical Assisting.
• Inaugural class of Legal Assisting and Medical Assisting students from Topeka Campus celebrate their graduation in July.

1986

• Mobile (AL) Campus is founded and established in July as the first “Southeast College of Technology.”
• Mobile’s original program offerings are Associate of Occupational Studies degrees in Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Information Systems, and Business Administration.
• Inaugural class of Business Administration and Computer Information Systems AOS degree students from Topeka Campus celebrate their graduation in July.

1987

• Memphis (TN) Campus is founded and established in July as the second “Southeast College of Technology.”
• Memphis’s original program offerings are the same as those offered at Mobile (AL) Campus: Associate of Occupational Studies degrees in Electronics Engineering Technology; Computer Information Systems; and Business Administration.

1988

• Inaugural class of Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Information Systems, and Business Administration AOS degree students from Mobile (AL) Campus celebrate their graduation in January.
• Education America celebrates an early milestone – its 100th graduate – in January.

1989

• Inaugural class of Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Information Systems, and Business Administration AOS degree students from Memphis (TN) Campus celebrate their graduation in January.
• U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization Services grants Mobile (AL) Campus approval to enroll M-1 nonimmigrant students (foreign students here on visas for vocational education purposes) in March.

1990s: Acquisition and Integration

1990

• National Education Center/NEC (later, Education America – Cleveland (OH) Campus) begins operations in January.
• Fort Worth (TX) Campus receives initial ACCSC approval in February.

1991

• Program expansion begins at Fort Worth Campus in May with initial ACCSC approval of new business and electronics programs.

1992

• Tampa Campus moves to its 2410 East Busch Boulevard location in February.

1993

• Initial approval is received from State of Hawaii in July to award Associate of Applied Science degrees.

1994

• Medical Assisting diploma program expands to five campuses early in the year.

1995

• Tampa Campus and Fort Worth Campus are officially acquired in August as “Education America – Tampa Technical Institute” and “Education America – Fort Worth Campus.”
• Program expansion occurs at Tampa Campus programs included Business Administration and Electronics Technology, in July.
  

1996

• Borrower Support Services group is established in Fort Worth (TX), and company-wide default aversion initiatives are in place by midyear under the guidance of Chuck Skidmore.
  

1997

• Dallas (TX) Campus is acquired in July as “Education America – Dallas Campus.”
• Houston (TX) Campus is acquired in August as “Education America – Houston Campus.”

1998

• Little Rock (AR) Campus is founded and established in July.
• Lafayette and Baton Rouge (LA) Campuses and Cleveland (OH) Campus are acquired in July.
• Colorado Springs (CO) Campus is acquired in December.
• Honolulu (HI) Campus is founded and established in December.

1999

• First-ever bachelor’s and distance education program offering, the Operations Management Bachelor of Applied Science degree program, is introduced at Mobile (AL) Campus in January.
• Three separate information technology programs, Computer Information Systems, Internet Information Systems, and Computer Networking Technology, are introduced at 16 campuses beginning in July.

2000s: Integration and Growth

2000

• A fourth information technology program, Computer Systems Technology , is introduced at six campuses in April.

2001

• Criminal Justice associate’s degree program is first offered at four campuses in May.
• Criminal Justice bachelor’s degree program is introduced at the same four campuses as a completion program.

2002

• Campus2000 (CampusVue) implementation team is formed in September to help centralize and manage campus records in a more efficient, streamlined manner across corporate and campus locations.

2003

• Education America/Remington College celebrates its 10,000th graduate in February.
• National branding campaign: Common name of all existing campuses is officially changed from Education America to Remington College in the period from April to June.
• The words “Remington College” with the stylized R logo are developed and first used in July.
• The “Real Skills for the Real World” tagline is developed and first used in July.
• New Medical Insurance and Coding diploma program is first offered at Baton Rouge Campus in August.
• New Pharmacy Technician diploma program is first offered at Cleveland Campus in August.
• New Massage Therapy diploma program is first offered at Honolulu Campus in August.
• Second campus in Cleveland (OH), known as “Cleveland West Campus,” is founded and established in October.
• Nashville (TN) Campus is founded and established in November.

2004

• Second campus in Houston (TX), known as “North Houston Campus,” is founded and established in February.
• New Dental Assisting (DA) diploma program is first offered at Cleveland West (OH) Campus in February.
• Parent company Education America, Inc. is incorporated in the State of Florida in May.

2005

• Corporate headquarters is moved to Heathrow (FL) beginning in January.
• New Culinary Arts associate’s degree program is first offered at Dallas Campus in October.

2006

• Campus/program expansion occurs early in the year at three Texas locations: Ft. Worth, North Houston, and Dallas.

2007

• Shreveport (LA) Campus is founded and established in July.
• New Computer and Network Administration associate’s degree program is introduced in April.
• Construction is completed on the first-ever “Salon at Remington”; new Cosmetology Program is launched at Fort Worth Campus in July.

2008

• New Electronic Technology diploma program is introduced at Cleveland Campus in January.
• Third campus in Houston (TX), known as “Houston Southeast Campus,” is founded and established in February.
• New Personal Fitness Trainer diploma program is launched at Tampa (FL) Campus in August.
• Tampa Campus moves to its current location with a grand opening celebration in August.
• Remington College of Nursing (FL) Campus is founded and established in October.
• New Computer-Aided Drafting diploma program is introduced at Mobile Campus in November.

2009

• Inaugural classes at Remington College of Nursing begin in early February, after ACCSC and Florida Board of Nursing approvals.
  Columbia (SC) Campus is founded and established in March.
• New Physical Therapist Assistant associate’s degree program is introduced at Cleveland West Campus in July.
• New Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning diploma program is introduced at Memphis Campus in August.
• New Dental Hygiene degree program is introduced at Nashville Campus in September.Remington College officially launches its online campus in October, after ACCSC approval and licensing by the Florida Commission for Independent Education.
• Cosmetology Program is successfully in place at 14 campuses by October.
• New Process Control Engineering Technology degree program is introduced at Mobile Campus in October.
• Total cumulative graduate population across all campuses is at 49,417 – nearing the 50, 000 milestone – as of October 2009.

2010

• Education America/Remington College celebrates 25 years in post-secondary education in January, with 20 campuses across the U.S. and a new online campus in place and actively enrolling students. We continue to grow!
