The Jess and Mildred Fisher Center For Familial Cancer Research

The mission of the Jess and Mildred Fisher Center for Familial Cancer Research, established in August 2006, is to conduct state-of-the-art research on the prevention, treatment and management of familial cancers in order to improve the medical and quality of life outcomes of women and men at risk for cancer.  In addition, the Center is committed to research aimed at identifying and integrating genomic information to provide more precise and individually tailored cancer risk estimates and therapies.

Fisher Center: Program Meetings

Members of the Fisher Center are invited to attend informal meetings in which ongoing and new research ideas will be discussed, in addition to relevant clinical, educational, and programmatic issues. 

In 2011, we will convene 3 meetings from 2-3 PM, and light refreshments will be served.  The September and November meetings will be held in the Martin Marietta Room of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.  The schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, April 13:  Sharon A. Savage, MD, Investigator at NIH's Clinical Genetics Branch, Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics, will be giving a talk entitled, "Understanding Li-Fraumeni Syndrome in Children and Adults."  Among other topics, she will describe the study she is leading on the clinical and genetic aspects of LFS.  Click here for more information about the study.

Pilot Grant Awardees for 2010

The directors of the Jess and Mildred Fisher Center for Familial Cancer Research are pleased to announce the awardee for the 3rd cycle of pilot grants: 

Mitchell Jung, PhD, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology was funded for his study, "Role of PARP-1 on DNA Damage Response and Repair."  One of his aims will address DNA repair factors in normal and BRCA mutant cells.
