Extra scholarships make difference for Tech track: College notebook.

Mar. 15--While Virginia Tech's 2004 football championship will go down as a landmark event for the Hokies in their association with the ACC, there is also a special significance to Tech's second ACC championship.

Hokie fans will remember the prediction by former Roanoke Times sports editor Bill Brill, who said upon Tech's installation as an ACC member that the Hokies would not win a conference championship in his lifetime.

When the Hokies were football champions in their first season, Brill conceded that football would have been the most likely exception to his proclamation.
