Varsity logo ready

Malda, June 20: The logo of Gour Banga University is ready and waiting for approval. The authorities have asked the Bengal government for permission to introduce 18 subjects and sanction the posts of the teaching and non-teaching staff.

The vice-chancellor of the varsity, Surobhi Banerjee, told reporters that in the teaching category, 18 professors, 18 readers and 28 lecturers would have to be recruited. The varsity will also need 24 officers and other 208 non-teaching staff.

The VC said the logo was designed by Sameer Rakshit, head of the architecture department, Jadavpur University. The logo will be approved by the university council at its meeting in Calcutta on June 24.

The design of the university building, also done by Rakshit, will, too, be placed before the council for its approval.

According to the VC, the administrative block, college campus, playground, laboratory and the conference hall will come up on 25 acres of land, for which Rs 1 crore was sanctioned. He added that not a single building would have more than four storeys.

Banerjee said the food processing department would set up a food park near the varsity.

The food processing minister, Sailen Sarkar, who is from the district, said 25 acres more would be given to the university. The land is in the possession of the agriculture department.
