Ove Christensen Fired: Randers Coach Axed After Hitting Reporter (VIDEO)

Posted: 04/26/11 04:14 PM ET

It has been a rough few days for former Randers FC coach Ove Christensen.

His team lost two matches in a row by a combined score of 8-1. After a 4-0 loss to Brondby on Monday, the Danish soccer manager unleashed his frustration on a reporter.

Christensen was asked whether he would remain the coach. He responded by telling the reporter that he can't be expected to answer his "stupid questions" and smacked him in the arm.

He was fired one day later.

Couldn't this have been handled with a simple apology over a couple of beers? I didn't know the Danes were such wussies. Sad.

I guess it doesn't matter which country you're from, many coaches are A$$ hol*s. I remember some of the Je*ks i had to play for in Jr. High & H.S. If i we're that reporter i would have coldcocked this guy just for touching me. Also if i we're some of Bobby Knight's players, i would have knocked that old man right on his A$$. The old days of coaches being the law & doing anything they want should be over.

More coaches should get physical with reporters. Some of them are as thick as two planks and deserve to have some sense knocked into them. But that wasn't a punch. How pathetic.

Many coaches are thick as two planks... does that mean players can get physical with them?

The consecutive routs didn't help his cause either.

If I owned a team, and my coach hit like a girl, I would fire him too.

Well there you are. Now he can say he wasn't fire for being a sorry coach but because he has an anger management problem. But look how long basketball coach Bobby Knight lasted with his temper tantrums. If you're going to punch people you have to be a good coach.

He was fired because his team is terrible, not because he tapped the reporter on his shoulder.
06:52 PM on 4/26/2011
Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing.
05:30 PM on 4/26/2011
That was a pretty weak hit. He shouldn't have been fired for that.
05:28 PM on 4/26/2011
Fired for that?

I think it was because he was a bad coach. The team just needed an excuse. But could you imagine the uproar if TO hit a reporter like that? Folks would want him in jail after he produced his birth certificate.

On that subject, where's your birth certificate sir?
