Dental Marketing

May 30th, 2011  / Author: admin

The Future of Dental Marketing. The rise of social media is already profoundly affecting the medical sector and the so-called e-patient has long become a reality – albeit one that most dentists are still struggling to adapt to. Few dentists have the necessary time and resources to effectively promote themselves online. With checkdent it is very easy to find a dentist in your city. This entails the continuous editorial and technological maintenance of your website, dental marketing, the production of new multimedia content (copy, images and videos), search engine optimization (SEO), blogging, social media activity and, ideally, an affiliate program. In other words, a wide range of IT and editorial activities, which – until now – required a substantial investment of time and money for training, technical support and agency services.

Sterility in Medicine

May 5th, 2011  / Author: admin

The term “sterile” means free of germs and disease agents. Sterility in medicine and sterilization refers to the process that removes living micro-organisms from materials and objects. The goal of product sterilization is to kill all micro-organisms and spores. In addition, viruses, prions (infectious proteins), plasmids and other DNA-fragments are destroyed. Make sure to find a dentist who is highly knowledgable in these matters. This makes a sterilized product non-infectious, meaning you cannot catch diseases from it. Steam sterilization (heating in an autoclave) is standard procedure in most hospitals and doctors’ offices. You see the sterilizer being loaded with surgery containers holding sterile goods. The container serve as storage until the next patient treatment.

Alveolar Atrophy

April 15th, 2011  / Author: admin

In the animation “alveolar atrophy“, you see a so-called “onlay plastic.” The patient’s own bone is extracted, e.g., from the jaw angle, and transplanted to the desired location. This reestablishes the sufficient bone height for an implant and thus, for a fixed dental prosthesis. You can learn more about bone augmentation in the video by the same title. How fast the bone regresses after the loss of a tooth differs in every person and depends on various factors; in some people it takes months, in others, it takes years. Read more about this in our dental forum. Sometimes, a so-called flabby ridge forms; this an alveolar ridge consisting of connective tissue. This is usually observed when the osseous alveolar ridge regresses very quickly, e.g., due to an ill-fitting prosthesis; in such cases, a fibrous ridge remains, which is not suitable for an implantation.

Dental Dam – Rubber Dam

March 21st, 2011  / Author: admin

A dental dam – rubber dam is a rubber membrane mainly used for completely draining dental crowns. Various substances used in dentistry are incredibly sensitive to moisture. For example, a dental dam should infallibly be used when gluing ceramic inlays and/or synthetic fillings, because the quality of the procedure would otherwise be brutally compromised. Equally, root canal treatments should by no means be performed without a dental dam, for the reason that there are lots of bacteria in the saliva, which can spark infections by making their way into the gaping tooth canal. Read more about this in our dental forum.
