What do the BLUE skin stay for? Why are they wearing a cap and no shirt? What's the subliminal meaning of their lack of nostrils?? Is this suggesting that they refuse to smell other races?

At first I was gonna disregard what this guy was saying as nonsense. But after thinking about it, there probably is some truth to what he's saying. Its quite feasible that a Belgian artist in 1958 could have anti-semitic, pro-aryan beliefs.
Just look at Walt Disney cartoons in the 30's and 40's. This was a man who had racist beliefs and it showed in some of his cartoons against blacks and asians.
The same goes for Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes. Same era, they used negative stereotyping as well.
I don't know enough about Peyo's life to really understand the evolution of the Smurfs, but the claim isn't as ridiculous as I first believed when I read the article's title.

I would posit that Walt Disney was not a racist, yet a product of a societal belief system that included institutional racism. Indeed, Disney included Native American shows and life,at Disneyland, in a way that celebrated Native American heritage (exploited yes but let's keep this in societal context). This was also the place that included "It's a Small World" and it's message of oneness of all.
So yes, institutionalized racism was indeed included in many facets, but Disney did have a side of advocacy as well!

Personally, I thought the cartoon sucked. I wasw raised on the Flintstones, Yogi Bear, and all the other Hanna Barbera classics, plus the Walter Lantz productions. And of course, Loony Tunes and Popeye. I don't believe any of those will ever be outdone.

are these people serious??? have they not seen "south park", or "king of the hill" or "the family guy" ... or "the muppets'? political correctness gone bonkers.

Bueno may very well be the racist for assuming that when a black cartoon ".... become completely moronic. And further more, they can no longer speak, they just go 'nyap nyap nyap.'" most be imitating black people.
He seems to be the type who'd say we called the bubonic plague the Black Death to demonize black people. Doesn't this donk realize these shows are written by teams of writers who come and go over the years.
Because black is associated with the night, the darkness of a cave, the color of gangrene black is symbolic of death and disease and has nothing to do with the color of ones skin. To directly or even tangentially try to make that connection is,,,, what did he say?... oh yea, moronic.

I seem to recall reading something about this, but it does seem a stretch.
As it turns out, the most racist movie (at least according to what Antoine Bueno seems to suggest) is "Planet of the Apes". The noble apes are blond and have English accents. The scientists, considered slightly lower, have dark fur. The police are black and don't speak comprehensibly.

What he didn't realize is that the "Planet of the Apes" class system was based on species. Orangutans were the ruling class, chimpanzees were the intellectuals, and gorillas were soldiers and laborers. Fur color was coincidence.

Regarding the "turning black" when sick thing, when one is punched in the eye or breaks the nose, you have a black eye, don't you? Not usually referred to as a bruised eye. When people get sick from working in the mines, they get black lung. Frostbite can turn your limbs black. There are plenty of medical conditions in which turning black means there's something wrong. I'm not sure what the big deal is.
