Notes/History:

  • 6/30/2001, 9:00am: Urban Oldies format 'The Groove' is dropped in favor of Adult Contemporary as Magic 105.1. Last song as The Groove was Boyz II Men End of the Road, followed by a tribute to the station. First song with AC format was Celine Dion Because You Loved Me. Jim Harper is new morning show host. This change marked the second go-round for Greater Media with a soft rock 'Magic' station in Detroit - WMJC FM 94.7 was named 'Magic 95' for a number of years in the late 1970's through 1987.
  • 10/1/1999: Using the positioner 'The Groove' for several months, station obtains the use of the WGRV-FM call sign.
  • 4/4/1999: Alternative Rock format isn't sucessful in ratings or financially, new format is Classic Soul/Urban Oldies.
  • 12/1997: Call sign change to WXDG to match 'The Edge' name
  • 11/21/1997 5:00pm: After 37+ years Classical format is dumped for Alternative Rock. First song as 'The Edge' is "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails
  • 1996: Greater Media and Evergreen swap stations, with Greater Media receiving 105.1 Detroit and Evergreen receiving a station in Washington D.C. along with $9.5 million (Evergreen eventully becomes part of AM/FM and later Clear Channel)
  • 1996: Secret Communications sells station, along with then sister stations WMXD-FM 92.3 and WJLB-FM 97.9, to Evergreen Communications. Stations in other cities are involved- total price tag was $237 million for all the stations involved. The deal puts Evergreen over ownership limits in Detroit, forcing yet another transfer of the station.
  • 1996: American Radio Systems sells station to Secret Communications for $27 million
  • 1996: Marlin Broadcasting sells station to American Radio Systems for $18.5 million
  • 1995: Owner Marlin Broadcasting works a deal to sell station for $21 to American Radio Systems but the deal is postponed
  • 3/6/1960: On-air with Classical format
