Abstract (Document Summary)

If there's one thing that just about everyone on the North Shore agrees on, it's the need for quality education.

Republican Joe Walsh is challenging incumbent Democrat Jeffrey Schoenberg in an effort to convince the public that Schoenberg's voting record has not been good for area schools.

Walsh is upset that Schoenberg voted for Gov. Jim Edgar's school funding reform bill last winter. That bill, which did not pass, would have raised state income taxes by 25 percent in exchange for property tax relief.
